Works, but not for the impatient or uninitiated.

trork2012, Ebay

  • Summary: Definitely not “Plug & Play” set-up. But if you have patience and a bit of experience (I’m no computer guru by any means), it will deliver digitized copies of 35mm B&W negatives and color slides which can then be worked in PS, Silver Efex Pro and/or Perfect Effects, etc. Not surprisingly, 400 ASA and up B&W negatives very grainy. 64 ASA color slides look very good.

Dissatisfied

TechDr "TechDr", Amazon

  • Summary: The scratch and dust removal feature worked when I first got the scanner, but began to malfunction after a few weeks into use. I tried to contact Plustek who promises a 24 hour response. I've made three attempts to obtain help, and never heard a word from them. The price would be good for a working device, but its way much money for something that's not functional and a company that won't support their product.

Low price high quality film scanner

Jiang Zhihua, Amazon

  • Summary: The over all quality is good for a product at this price. The iSDR hardware do work with SilverFast but the dust/scratch removal result would be much better with VueScan. But for heavy scratches, it can still be seen on the final result, which can be removed by the clone tool in photo. It's noise is controlled in acceptable range and color adjusted in VueScan is good. I'm pleased with the result.

Very sound product

  • Summary: This is a great product. I had no experience with converting slides to digital. I just wanted a machine that would do this job as easily as possible. While some aspects are not easy, it is reliable and gives outstanding quality. Biggest weakness: The software - particularly the instructions. Eg: Even though there is both written and video help available for scratch and dust removal, I have yet to get it to work as designed despite many hours of labor.

Displeased by the quality

Matthew "Plethora_Reader", Amazon

  • Summary: I have been using the CanonScan 8600F flatbed scanner with fantastic results but was hoping to get a specialized negative scanner. Upon receiving this device I tried it out and was disappointed to say that the quality of its scans were vastly inferior to a basic flatbed scanner. Save your money and go with the flexibility of a flatbed. Occasionally cleaning the glass is a small price to pay for the quality.

Great Scanner

Photo Dude, Amazon
28 March 2010
  • Summary: I've been looking for an affordable, dedicated 35mm film scanner for a long time and this is it. I am a user with above average computer and photographic skills. The scanner is well constructed and the "SilverFast SE" software is superb. The iSRD (infrared scratch & dust removal), contrary to some reviews, works very well, however read the documentation carefully! Don't expect to just use the automatic removal mode.

Extremely Happy

JFB, Amazon

  • Summary: I purchased this scanner based on the reviews of the previous models. I've been very happy with the results. I've tried flatbed scanners and they don't come close to the clarity this one provides.

Works as advertised

Gary Henry "family archivist", Amazon

  • Summary: Worked right out of the box on a vista 32bit machine!!!! After fiddling with the bundled Silverfast software, decided it was much to cumbersome to use and purchased a third party product online called VueScan ($~#30) that does the job. I am in the process of scanning over a thousand 35mm slides taken back in the late 1940's for a video project and find that the iSRD feature is saving me a huge amount of time cleaning up much of the accumulated dust and grime.

Good but not Easy

buttyboy, Ebay
9 October 2009
  • Summary: This scanner is able to produce high-quality scans of slides. That's the good part. The software is definitely not user friendly, and their just isn't good information either with the scanner or online. A tutorial would have been very appreciated. On the other hand, most people want to scan their old slides and then resell the scanner.
