Good scanner but manufacturing issues

Markus, Amazon
29 April 2014
  • Summary: The scanner did install without any issues on Windows 7. I want to note that it requires a pretty long (~1min) warm-up period so the color temperature of the Cold Cathode lamps is controlled. Unfortunately they aren't using LEDs in this model. I give only three starts because of the manufacturing issues of the glass plate. I detected some spots on the surface and ordered a replacement model. This had also a couple of defects on the glass. This might be only bad luck but.

Not perfect but entirely adequate for my purposes.

rpsmithbarney, Ebay
19 May 2013
  • Summary: Had to return the first one for an exchange as the scanner glass has dust particles attached to the underside. There's no way to clean this without disassembly. Shipper was flawless in arranging for a replacement unit. The software leaves a lot to be desired. Basically you have 3 bundled programs to chose how you want your scans to be processed. Frankly I use Picmokey and Photoshop for all post production scans so non of them were of any use to me.

Plustek 3800 Opticbook

CEA, Adorama
24 November 2012
  • Excerpt: takes a while to warm up and the contrast is not very dark, I have to adjust the gamma and brightness to appropriate levels for good contrast, bit of a pain but easily done. Scans right up to the edge of a book page to within about a half inch totally flat with no distortion.
  • Pros: Good Resolution
  • Cons: Slow

Plustek Optibook 3800

T. Counley, Amazon
7 July 2012
  • Summary: The item was delivered within the time specified and was as described in the 'blurb'. I found that the multi-language instructions cumbersome as they are printed in a single column for each language on one very large sheet of paper which had to be fully opened to read. In my particular case the description of what happens--screens and dialogue boxes etc--in the instruction sheet didn't correspond with the OSD. The instructions were not too user friendly.

oui mais....

Gonnet "lagonnette", Amazon
19 August 2012

Bauer Henriques, Amazon
25 December 2011
  • Summary: Und täglich güßt das Murmeltier. Also doch den Plustek.
