Summary: I don't recommend this. It is expensive and unreliable. We bought this because it seemed that it would make note taking easier. The statement for the pen says it works as a highlighter. In theory the highlighted section will post onto a Word document that can be edited. The device is very finicky. After scanning one sentence 5 times the sentence appeared on the laptop. It doesn't always scan the full sentence.
Summary: This thing works and helps me a lot in getting words from books to the computer. The only thing you have to pay attention to is to make sure that you are using it in the right way and understand its limitation. Underlined word can rarely be scanned. Certain background color of the paper will not allow the text to be scanned. Incorrect angle of the pen while being used will not let it scan properly. Bottom line: This thing works, but only when you know how to work it.
Summary: I find that pen works fine on flat surfaces and non glossy paper. Trying to use the pen on book pages which are curved toward the binding side causes some very interesting characters to appear on the output document. Also trying to use the pen on paper which is glossy such as some magazine paper causes the pen to completely misinterpret the characters you are trying to copy.
Summary: I've used this product for several months as a researcher. Using this product has meant gaining some speed but at some cost. When it works, it doubles my speed in taking citations from sources. However, it frequently doesn't, skipping whole lines and inserting the number 7 or 5 where the text should be. Those are probably error codes, but not ones that the manufacturers provided a key for so that the user could know what went wrong and adjust accordingly.
Summary: This was great if you use long quotes from books for essays. However, there is a certain speed you should move so that the words don't get messed up on the screen. Try different speeds to see how fast you can scan. Once I found the fastest speed I could go without having errors, this was a great device to use. It might leave a minor crease on the paper (not exactly a crease, but you can see the lines where the pen was pressed).
Summary: I had the same excperience that several other buyers had. At first the pen scanned fairly well. Then after a few months it just quit. There were no updated drivers on the web site, but there was software. I downloaded that but when I installed it I found that it was not updated software, but was the old version. Nothing worked. I will say this: It is WELL constructed. It took me ten minutes to beat it to death with a large hammer.
Summary: I selected I like it because if I had selected the wireless I would be Loving it. However, I did not do enough research and only learned after the fact that there was a wireless version. I would recommend this to students, people who go to seminars and visits to the library. I purchased this item for genealogy purposes and extremely happy with it. With genealogy, you visit many libraries and court houses to view documents from your ancestors.
