NO SUPPORT FOR WIN XP PRO

meikel14 "meikel14", Amazon
3 May 2003
  • Summary: I've recently upgrated from ME to XP Prp and found that this scanner is not working (not recognized) under Windows XP. Microtek doesn't seem to have specific drivers fron WIN XP, only for WIN 2000, 98, and 95. Although I did purchase this scanner about 2 years ago, I never had problems with it under Win ME.

Junk

SANDRA GOBIN, Amazon
25 February 2003
  • Summary: I purchased 3 of these scanners because it received such a great review. I can only describe the product as junk. To attempt to use it I had to "rig" the scanner by disconnecting and connecting it before using it and sometimes during use because it would freeze. Also the sound card had to be removed from the computer. Assistance from Microtek was of no use and they themselves did not know how to deal with the problems.

One of my Worst Experiences

David Sadowsky "silly grannies", Amazon
7 January 2003
  • Summary: I purchased the scanner new. After installation I could make 2 scans and then the scanner (or software) would lock up and my coputer could not find it. I sent emails to tech support and followed all their instructions and the result was always the same. They then sent an email saying to call tech support. I called (a toll call, not an 800 #) and it took 10 min b4 someone answered and said I needed to be xferred to the advanced consulting group.

poor support for Windows XP Professional

A. E. Gomez, Amazon
3 November 2001
  • Summary: Microtek's web site claims that this will work with Windows XP. I had to e-mail their sales staff to ask a technical support question ("how do you get this to work?") and they just said "it will work with USB". Wrong. I've removed and reinstalled the driver that "works with Windows XP" many times. They need to update their drivers for Windows XP. If you install the drivers as administrator, only administrators (not regular users) can scan images.

V6upl

Audrey Chandler Cannon, Amazon
5 July 2001
  • Summary: We just purchased and returned two other scanners, one by mustek and one by umax. The first thing I noticed about this scanner is it's weight - it is well made and not flimsy like so many scanners you see. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but the scan quality is great and scanwizard twain interface is nicely done. It is a little bit picky in winME, but otherwise was an easy install. The Software bundled is nice.

No customer support and Bad Quality

David Sadowsky "silly grannies", Amazon
2 May 2001
  • Summary: Impossible is the word to describe trying to get in touch with Microtek customer service. Not only is the product extremely unreliable, but customer service and technical support would rather you not call them if you have problems.

For just $130.00, I think its a good deal.

meikel14 "meikel14", Amazon
29 March 2001
  • Summary: This is my 2nd Microtek Scanner and I am relatively pleased with it this far. After I downloaded the updated driver supporting Windows ME, I could quickly install the scanner, although the "Scan Detector" does not always recognize the scanner. Since this model has no OFF/ON switch you could be wasting energy. Reflective art and negative 35mm filmstrips scan well (especially the "Descreen" and "Pre-Scan" functions sold me).

One star is the minimum?

Audrey Chandler Cannon, Amazon
24 December 2000
  • Summary: This is the most disappointing purchase I have ever made from Amazon. However, since I can't be bothered with sending it back and hunting for another, I'm stuck with it until I give in and buy a whole new one. This P.O.S system comes with a version of Omnipage that, according to the poorly translated Taiwanese documentation, must be installed in Safe Mode, to avoid crashing the system.
