Summary: After plowing through a user unfriendly set-up that took the better of two hours, I got the slide converter to work. However, two days later when I returned to copy more slides, the device failed. I called cuistomer services and spoke to two techs. They finally concluded there was a hardware problem. So, I followed their instructions and paperwork to return it to the company for repair or replacement (at my expense).
Summary: I'm not one to even write reviews, but i felt it was necessary to warn naive people like myself that this product is not a high quality film scanner. pictures i take with my 1.3mp phone camera have higher resolution and quality than this thing. The auto color balance is a joke and completely washes out images, to sum it up in a word: disappointment.
Summary: I bought the scanner to use on boex and boxes of 45mm slides I had taken over the years. After many attempts to use the scanner I gave up. I loaded and unloaded the software 6 times and never got the scanner to be recognized by my new laptop running Windows 7. The scanner would not enter "calibrate mode" and was eventually returned to the shipper.
Summary: If you have Windows 7, DO NOT buy this product! (I don't know if it works under XP or Vista; I didn't try it.) There is no native driver for Win7. I've contacted Ion-Audio twice for tech support. They sent alleged work-arounds that didn't work! I've visited their website many times over the past two months and there's STILL no Win7 driver.
Summary: The bottom line is that one could expect scans from original film to be better quality than scans from paper copy. Unfortunately, when it comes to this scanner, it is just opposite. Therefore purchasing it doe not make much sense. Allegedly, it is a 5 MB scanner. It should give you plenty of dpi (about 3600?). Unfortunately, scans produced by this contraption are much less that your screen resolution. waste of money and time.
Summary: I have a 2 phase complaint. 1. The instructions and manual say to calibrate the slide scanner before first use. When I perform this step, Windows XP restarts. So I cannot really rate the product because it will not load. The customer support (e-mail only) ARCSOFT Said the problem is the Scanner Driver they cannot help with hardware. There is No support available from ION manufacture listed. 2.
Summary: I purchased the Ion Slides 2 Pc to digitize a large family collection of slides from over the years. For its small cost, I thought I could save a lot by doing it myself and not sending it to a lab to do it professionally. Once you install the software (scanner driver, and Photo Impression 6), you reboot and then start up Impression 6. Click on "get Photos" and the quick scanner calibration starts. Now its time to scan.
