Excerpt: A scanner for me is not really as important except if you want to upload a document faster. The only thing I know before that needs to be scan are merely documents. But right now, even pictures can be scanned.
Summary: If you need a scanner only (this is not a printer) that can do slides, + has adjustable resolution for any other kind of scanning (photos, documents), this is incredible! You can choose whatever file extension you want to save your scan (including .pdf). The user who rated this one star stated that he bought it based on the photo, which meant he thought it was a printer and did not read the product description.
Summary: This scanner is good but if you want to e-mail it to yourself. You'll have to pay 20$ each year because the scanner puts your pictures in a pdf file. But overall it catches all the details on the picture.
Summary: Get used to seeing that message if you waste your money on this scanner. Just ended an hour long phone call with HP customer support trying to install the software on windows XP. They know about the problem. The installation package includes the "Access Denied Utility" which was ineffective on my system. They are researching the problem and promise to call call later.
contrary to 'jim's' statement - Vista drivers have ALWAYS' been available.

Summary: this scanner isn't that fast, and is 'top' heavy w/ software, but you want high resolution; and customizable output possibilities, this isn't a bad choice. As to the mis-informed fellow 'Jim' - who states there are no Vista drivers, please find them here: web-link not allowed - Google hp and select 'drivers & downloads' then search for g4010 - you'll be able to select from various OS...
Summary: This is the second G4010 I purchased. Like everything else it has its good points and its bad points. The slide adapter is a little cumbersome to use, the user interface could use some work, especially the preview screen when you're doing slides. But, its scans are pretty darn good!
