Summary: Comments about HP Scanjet 4850: I purchased this scanner because I had spent hard times with my year old Epson Perfection 2580 so I was expecting a lot from the HP scanner. Was I shocked! The speed is predicted by them at 10 sec/slide and the slides are fine-looking. I did have some problem while installing the printer. But it was all ok so far!
Pros: Accurate Color, Excellent Software, Good Bit Depth, Good Resolution, Widely Compatible, Works on Network
Summary: Comments about HP Scanjet 4850: I bought it because the price was right and the look of it appealed to me. It is doing a good job too. Overall I am pleased. Turns out it is a bit harder to keep clean than I thought, but it is still doing a good job getting all my years of photos onto my computer and website for the kids.
Pros: Accurate Color, Easy Setup, Excellent Software, Good Resolution, Widely Compatible
Summary: Google-searching for alternate software solutions, I came across these reviews, and figured I'd write one of my own. I've had this scanner for over two years now, after grabbing it off the shelf my first year of college. I installed the software initially, but never needed to use it because I'd import scans to Photoshop just using the scanner's driver.
Summary: HP hasn't distributed the software yet that will let the HP Scanjet 4850 scanner work with the new Microsoft Vista operating system. The software on the CD in the box doesn't work with Vista. HP will allow you to download a bare-bones version that will let you use the scanner for very simple things only. But as of March 8th, 2007, they still haven't released the full version. Maybe someone forgot to tell HP that Vista was under development for the last few years?
Summary: I just got this HP 4850 scanner to scan some slides that I could not get scanned with an Epson 4490 (took too long). I scanned a bunch of 35 mm slides at 600% enlargement (a bit bigger than 5x7") and a final resolution of 300 dpi. I used the dust removal setting on the HP software. Took about one minute per slide (four slides can be loaded at once); the Epson was taking 5 minutes per slide at best.
Summary: I too bought the scanner for a family project and also to digitise my old 35mm negatives that I had lost the prints of from over the last 30 years. Firstly, I ordered this through Amazon and Pixmania. I waited the 3 weeks as specified on the delivery instructions (I thought this an excessive wait anyway). On the last day possible for it to be delivered I received an email saying it was out of stock, so I had waited 3 weeks in vain.

Summary: Hola a todosssss!!!! cuánto tiempo sin escribir!!
