  • Summary: I have had this scanner for some time. Got it for its versatility especially with scanning from large books. I just confirmed with HP that it is not compatible with either Windows 8 or Mac Lion. and there are no updates planned at this point. Therefore, it unfortunately has gone Jurassic.

Great Scanner .... But,

R. Watson, Amazon
4 March 2006
  • Summary: It is a great design,, very easy to use and takes up little desk space. BUT, scanning any photos with large black spaces (ie black backdrop) left a streaked look and the black was more of a grey. HP promptly sent me a replacement scanner. This one the steaks are gone, but the black areas are still grayish and blotchy. If you are using it for documents... It is awesome. It makes scanning my receipts for my expense reports a piece of cake.

An adequate scanner

7 September 2005
  • Summary: A good scanner if space is an issue or you wish to scan unusual sized items. Software is quirky and takes a little time to use correctly.
  • Pros: Portability, ability to scan items other than pictures, negative and documents.
  • Cons: Software is quirky.

Interesting Ergonomics but Average Usability

prashton, epinions.com
12 April 2005
  • Summary: Keep looking if you want fast operation and dual voltage capability. The easy alignment and large document scanning options are good assets. Otherwise avoid.
  • Pros: Interesting design concept and easy alignment of the original
  • Cons: Poor software and set up; single voltage power supply inappropriate for a portable unit

"Capable of scanning documents that no other device can."

CNET
12 January 2005
  • Pros: Works with oversize and fragile documents. An exceptional opportunity for libraries, archives, and other settings where image capture is impractical.
  • Cons: Scan quality is mediocre - banding, spurious artifacts.

Don't judge a book by it's cover

theubers, epinions.com

  • Excerpt: I bought this based on a review in Maximum PC. Should have really looked at what they were saying.
  • Pros: Not tied to a desk. Scans negatives/slides/large posters. Outputs in all formats.
  • Cons: SLOW and the higher the resolution the slower it gets.

"Amazing looking, average performance"

CNET
2 September 2004
  • Pros: Coolest scanner... ever. Decent speed and acceptable scan quality, especially if for home-use and/or web work.
  • Cons: Pricey. Four glass surfaces to keep clean. Crappiest scanning software... ever.

"Nice look, okay scans."

CNET
13 July 2004
  • Pros: Small, fast (once you warm it up)and really cool looking. Great for documents and fooling around, try scanning a hand or face with any other machine!
  • Cons: speaking as a semi-professional digital artist, this isn't the best photo scanner out there, and the slide/negative scanner leaves something to be desired.

HP 4670 Scanner

james lennon, Amazon
9 May 2004
  • Summary: I purchased this scanner for the flexability that the form factor offered, but I was frustrated by several aspects of the design, documentation and software. 1. The scanner has a long USB cable that pulls laterally from the USB prt on your PC. If you leave it connected for any length of time or accidenty pull on the cable the port is sure to be damaged. 2. the software is junk. It's hard to figure out, crashes and gives less than perfect results.
