Summary: very awesome scanner and i need this for my over size document scanning and use photoshop to merge all the pieces together. sad thing is HP doesn't support any driver for mac lion 10.7 series, and nothing for windows 7 neither so i have to download driver for vista and install on my windows 7 pc (thank goodness I have both mac pro and a hp touchsmart computer).
Summary: I have had this product for 5 years (used) and it is still puting out quality scans. Windows 7 even automatically installed a driver for it. It's a nice scanner because the top comes off and can be laid on anything I need to scan, face-up. I don't need to open a book and place it face-down on a glass to scan it. This is a quality invention and should be brought back into the market.
Summary: I've had this for many years. I'm now scanning consistently, but only by booting my Mac into Windows (via bootcamp). Previously (before the Intel Macs), it worked erratically in the various versions of Mac OS. They just don't support the Mac. The software interface in Windows XP Pro is very basic and limited. This is the only way for Mac owners to use it. Scanned files can be placed in the shared documents folder.
Summary: There is nothing else like it. I've owned 3 of these since there initial release. The first one burned out after a year or so, probably because I was using it for hours on end to scan large pieces of art at 600+ dpi. I felt like i got enough use from it based on it's cost and I immediately purchased another, which I was careful not to over stress, and I still own it today. I just recently picked up another one here on Ebay really cheap for a backup unit.
Summary: Very sexy looking device. Makes my office really pop . Scans look awesome too and works great for layover scans . Drivers for windows 7 were also available on the HP website. Was no problem , Very easy to get setup.
Summary: First of all, I have a excellent Epson Perfection flat bed that I use for most document scanning, and the HP4600, though it will work for this is not it's strong point. In fact, the separate base for it is sort of a joke and not even worth using or necessary, for that matter. The one, huge, advantage the HP 4600 has over flat beds is the ability to scan larger objects and 3d objects where you can see exactly the area you want to scan.
