Watch out Windows XP!

Jeffrey B. Dollar "JBDollar", Amazon
27 June 2009
  • Summary: Be careful getting this scanner if you have anything over Windows 98. The software is not recognized and it will not work.

un-intelligent software

Amazon
13 January 2006
  • Summary: scanner bought second hand. I was surprised how old the model was. but it scans just fine & gives good results. but the software really stinks. it shuts down after each scan & if I want a different resolution then I have to scan again (each time) most frustrating, time wasting.

Great Scanner

"mercedesbenz1515", Amazon
27 July 2003
  • Summary: I bought this scanner a while back and I just absolutly love it.. The color scan on it is one of the best I have seen for a long time. It does good for black and white also. It's a little slow when it's scanning but for the money and the quality it does a great job. Buy one today you can't go wrong with HP period.

Slow, but reliable

OAKSHAMAN "oakshaman", Amazon
20 November 2002
  • Summary: This was my first scanner, and in my opinion, a very well designed one. I remember that I was up and scanning the first day I brought it home. It even worked with my old 486 long after I got a faster PC. I'll admit that it isn't fast, but if you are only going to do a little occasional scanning (such as for Ebay) it is just fine. It hums and it grinds- but it never failed me.

Perfect for my needs

Daryle Hise, Amazon
12 June 2002
  • Summary: After reading all the reviews on this product, I was not sure - until the store put this on clearance (newer models are out). It worked great the first day, then didn't the next ("cannot find scanner" message), but I contacted HP online and the next day got a help message. Since then it has given me no troubles.

Amazon

  • Summary: This is a great high resolution scanner. I use this thing everyday and I have no problems with it. I love how the color and the hp scanning technology enhances your pictures which is definately a plus. Buy this scanner if you are using win. 98.

HP 3200C

Sam, Amazon
24 April 2002
  • Summary: Any unreliable device is not worth any price. I got this scanner with rebates pretty cheap. However, I have had many connectivity problems. "Cannot find scanner". It will work one day and not the next. The time I've spent trying to correct the problem, I should have just spent the money and got a better scanner.

Intelligent scanning???

Kevin Javitz, Amazon
28 December 2001
  • Summary: I just bought one of these and I regret it. This scanner is slow, taking 3 - 5 minutes until the file is ready for editing. The software that comes with it is called intelligent scanning, but it seems to take all of the control from the operator. This, I presume, is because the operator is not expected to have the intelligence to control settings. As a person who has some experience with scanners, I find this very frustrating.

Works ok, but not on Win 2000

Kevin Javitz, Amazon
12 November 2001
  • Summary: I used this scanner for awhile on win 98 but after getting frustrated with win 98 unstability, I upgraded to win 2000. The scanner now crashes even with the win 2000 drivers from HP so I am leary of buying anymore HP scanners since they mostly use the same Precision Scan software.

A great first scanner

Simon Liao, Amazon
23 April 2001
  • Summary: Pros: Very easy to install and to use. Comes with lots of software, including Adobe, which is a plus because Adobe software is ALWAYS very expensive. Scanning generally takes about one minute for an average photo in 600 dpi, which isn't too bad if you only have a few to scan. Cons: If you need to scan a lot of pictures, this may be too slow for you. Also, the Precision Scan Picture software was not as stable as one would expect.
