Summary: I wanted a Scanner that works with Windows 7. I already have this same scanner for use with another computer and it basically works very well. The HP 4370 scanner I had with still another computer, oddly does not have a Windows 7 driver even though it is a newer and better scanner but I had to replace it due to not having a Windows 7 driver. Go figure.
Summary: This scanner is average all the way around. The last scanner I purchased was back in 2000, so I figured this product would be far superior in every aspect. While there are some better features, the overall performance and quality is just slightly better. The speed at which this scanner works is not very fast. At higher resolutions it can take over 10 minutes to scan a photo. The quality is good, but not great. I also had problems installing the drivers and software.
Summary: My first home scanner. I really liked how easy it was to set up & use, and its compact size & light weight--and I also liked the fact that you could scan slides as well as opaque images. I owned mine for about a year & a half & then sold it on to a friend, who is still using it (it's now 2 years old!) and loves it as much as I did.
Excerpt: While this scanner works well, the basic design is seriously flawed - the plastic hinges WILL BREAK. I've had 4 in the warranty period and all have broken due to me opening and shutting the lid. Like you have to.
Excerpt: For the first year of having the scanner i didnt encounter any problems, then out of the blue one day when scanning a document, the scanner started emmitting a high picthed squeal (never heard from the device before) and when doing a quick 'preview' scan the resulting image seen is distorted - think horizontal bands/lines of colour. Nothing found wrong with any of the connections to the scanner.
Excerpt: Took most of a day to install. Instructions say 'log on to XP as an administrator' My computer (hp Pavilion, brand new) says' never run as Administrator due to easy access for viruses'. Installed software and scanner. Tried a scan, got message ' an unexpected internal error has occurred' Went through reams of 'troubleshooting', then found a 'patch' at tech support which cured it.
Pros: Excellent value for money . Loads of applications
Excerpt: I Have this scanner and can tell you first hand that the quality of the Scans are brilliaint. It is definately value for money and is well worth having. I dont not think you need a scanner woth £400 unless you are using it to run a business is photography or anything where you need the results to be perfect to the point. This scanner is good enough for home and office use and i would definately reccomend it to anyone who needs a scanner.
