returning

garry s., Newegg
6 November 2013
  • Pros: well packaged and easy to install and set up. was able to determine file location for saving documents easily.
  • Cons: ADF (automatic document feeder) does not work. Jams easily. We could not get further than one sheet, did not scan two sided. Jammed every time it tried to scn second side. Essentially useless for desired purpose. I am returning today

HP 5590 scanner

Vincent, Amazon
31 August 2013
  • Summary: Garbage, absolute garbage from the hardware to the software. I work on office equipment for a living. If you have one of these things pick it up and smash it against the wall.

Didn't work with Windows XP; promised refund; none received!

Gino J. Bruno, Amazon
26 May 2013
  • Summary: This scanner was advertised as compatible with Windows XP. It was not!!! It came with several installation cds, including installation cds for Windows XP and Windows. I tried to install using each, but kept getting error messages that the installation was not complete. I even had my techie son-in-law try, but with the same results.

A word of warning

Alcam2, Amazon
30 October 2012
  • Summary: The HP Scanjet 5590 failed to work with YEP, a reputable, easy-to-use Filing Software. It worked fairly well as a stand alone; very slow, but it did the job. Research the product thoroughly to make sure it will meet your expectations. Also, a word of warning when buying from a vendor called Galactics. Make sure you read and understand their return provisions and regulations, to avoid deplorable results, as I did, if the product fails to operate.

Not a good buy

Jared R., Newegg
12 October 2012
  • Pros: It scans.. sometimes.
  • Cons: It jams fairly often, the software looks like it was made in 1995, and the scan speed is TERRIBLE. I have time to go bake a potatoe by the time I can successfully scan 10 sheets without a jam.

Cheap construction, difficult interface, stopped working

wyogold, Amazon
23 August 2012
  • Summary: We have two of these at the department I work. One started fogging over on the inside of the glass plate (impossible to clean), the other started having random streaks across scans that are always somewhere else (bad lamp?). On both, the lid broke off because the joints are cheap plastic. Basically, it looks like you're not supposed to use it frequently as a flatbed scanner. Don't buy this piece of junk!

Many Jams

pete1606, B&H Photo
26 February 2012
  • Excerpt: I have had many problems with the auto document feeder jamming. It actually became worse than better. When it jams the scanner does not save the previous pages scanned. Also Jams are very hard to clear when they jam on the outbound side. The software brought my mac to a near standstill since the installation even when it is not running.
  • Pros: Good Resolution
  • Cons: Hard to clear jam, Jams easily, Poor Software
