Summary: The organization I work for has now used this scanner for about a year and nearly 500,000 scanned pages. My personal experience is that the fi-6240 is a very reliable; low maintenance; fairly high-speed scanner. At the time of purchase, it should be noted that the Kofax VRS software that comes with the scanner; when purchased separately; costs about 1/2 of the price of the scanner. The Kofax software does make a noticeable difference.
Summary: I purchased this for our small office in hopes to eliminate lots of old files that we needed to keep record of. It was not hard to set up, and it does everything I hoped it would. Love the duplex scanning. The software that came with it is good and allows us to edit if needed. Very glad I purchased this one. Nothing I wished it would do differently. Only thing that slows us down is removing lots of old staples in the files. Well worth the investment.
Summary: I have an earlier iteration of this grand-and-a-half Fujitsu flatbed and sheet feed scanner. I've used it every day for several years and never had a problem. The scanner itself appears to have years of use left in it....but... ...beware, when MS updates its operating system Fujitsu DOES NOT PROVIDE DRIVERS for new Windows OSs, effectively turning your scanner into an expensive brick.
Summary: I upgraded from the fi-4220c2 to the fi-6240. I was happy with the 4220 but with my upgrade to Windows 7, learned that the fi-4220c2 had no Windows 7 drivers and was discontinued. So after 5 long years of reliable use, the fi-4220c2 got retired and I ordered the fi-6240. Wow. The 6240 is a vast improvement: Faster, much faster. This thing just rips through documents. Handles a stack of varied documents (envelopes, cards, letters) with ease - no misfeeds at all.
Summary: I bought this scanner about two and a half years ago. I use it on the go in and out of various offices scanning charts and large files on an everyday basis. I have been seen pulling it on my flatbed dolly, bungied corded down and bumping all the way along the cracked sidewalks. I thought the bulb would have gone by now after all the beating I give it moving around so much. I changed the wheels once so far. This scanner is a heavy duty abuse taking power machine.
