Great Scanner - Software Fail

GearJunky, Epson
15 December 2013
  • Summary: I purchased the V700 a few years back and used it for years without a problem. Then I upgraded my OS and the Silverfast software it came with - much better then the Epson Scan - is incompatible with the newer MacOS's.

Great Scanner - Software Fail

GearJunky, Adorama
15 December 2013
  • Excerpt: I purchased the V700 a few years back and used it for years without a problem. Then I upgraded my OS and the Silverfast software it came with - much better then the Epson Scan - is incompatible with the newer MacOS's. I don't want to drop another few hundred for the software so stuck using the Epson software. In addition, Firewire communication does not work in the later MacOS's so I'm scanning through USB 2.0 Little frustrations make a big headache.

missing firewire

Adorama
3 September 2013
  • Excerpt: I purchased this unit partially based on the description that it worked both with firewire and USB. The unit I received does not have a firewire port. The box, documentation and Epson's website say that it has firewire. Very poor job Epson!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out of Focus

Jtree007, Adorama
3 August 2013
  • Excerpt: This is scanner might be fine for paper, photographs, and similar items, but it is a terrible film scanner. The Scanner has the resolution to resolve all the detail of most films but it is almost impossible to get that detail. The film holders are terrible they are flimsy and do a poor job of holding film tight. That is a mild problem compared the complete inability to find the focal point of the scanner.

Mac Lion Issues with Software

Funk, Adorama
8 March 2013
  • Excerpt: I immediately found problems with Silverfast and Adobe Elements on my MacBook Pro. Adobe's customer service is completely inadequate. Silverfast says I need to delete the program and pull something down from the internet. I'm not sure why I need to use the program, anyway. The literature did not make that clear at all. This is not up to the Epson standards I've come to expect.

Bundled With Useless Software

Liveoakpark, B&H Photo
31 January 2013
  • Excerpt: I'm impressed with the scanner and satisfied with its capabilities, all as researched and advertised, so far.The software provided with the scanner was a disappointment. 1Lasersoft Silver Fast Ai 6 included will not work with MacOSX 10.8. I had to buy Silver Fast 8 after the fact.2. Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 included is dated. I needed and expected the latest release (Elements 11) in purchase. Catalog and online details were vague on this point. Should have asked.
  • Pros: Accurate Color, Easy To Set Up, Good Bit Depth, Good Resolution, Widely Compatible

Software problems on MAC

Home_slice, B&H Photo
27 December 2012
  • Excerpt: This scanners software is NOT COMPARABLE WITH MAC!!! To be clear, the scanner scans to a mac but the software that comes with it thats meant to fix slide film doesn't work with a mac. That plus the fact that it comes with photoshop elements (like we don't all have PS) makes me think that this photo scanner was not made with the professional photographer in mind.
  • Pros: Good Resolution
  • Cons: Difficult Setup, Poor Software

software that comes with v700

horse, Adorama
23 October 2012
  • Excerpt: I didn't think you would like my review. But I have to buy some software to make it work. After all the money I spent on the scanner and the software won't work on my IMAC is disappointing.
