Summary: I truly love this Epson scanner so far it's been awesome and worked well in every way. I am scanning and loading all our family photos storing them on disk as well as a back up hard drive. It really has help with our very old photos cleaning them up making them look like new.
Summary: Excellent scanner for slides, negatives and prints. When I was researching what scanner to get to replace my old HP scanner I did a lot of looking around. This one was the best trade-off between cost and image quality. Since it uses LEDs to light it up there is zero 'warm-up' time.
Summary: This was a replacement for a much less expensive, but very functional Canon scanner. This one does a very nice job, and has the added benefit of being able to scan both photo negatives (remember those?) and slides.
Summary: I have had this scanner for 1 month. It worked beautifully. I put it away because I was done with my project. Now I am trying to hook it up again to my computer and it keeps giving me an error message - the scanner can't connect with the computer. Have tried different computers. No luck.
Summary: Terrible, Terrible, Terrible. Will successfully scan maybe 1 in 3 attempts. When it fails, it leaves both the Epson software and the Epson scanner hung / frozen, meaning you have to force kill the software and power cycle to scanner to try again.
Lose the fear of parting with negatives and do it yourself!

Summary: I'm very happy with my new Epson scanner. Having wanted to save my old photos (prior to digital), I was always afraid to part with the negatives in fear they could be lost. Now I do it myself.
Summary: This scanner is amazing! I also have an HP Officejet Pro 8630 Premium that I use for business scanning and copying etc. I have used the HP for years to scan photos, edit them in Photoshop etc. But the difference is night and day with the Epson V550.
Summary: The scanner works quite well for photos. BUT the FineReader OCR that comes with it is out of date. To get the OCR to work with Yosemite (Mac's current OCS) and convert to Word's .docx, one must buy an $80.00 upgrade from FineReader. This is really unacceptable in a supposedly current machine.
