  • Excerpt: my only wish is that epson made one of these with an 11x17 flat bed to scan in bigger pictures. i don't know any creatives that want to limit their scans to standard letter size. you would want to be able to at least scan an artsy magazine if not decent sized artwork.
  • Pros: Accurate Color, Easy To Set Up, Good Bit Depth, Good Resolution

Mostly excellent scanner

  • Excerpt: I looked at a lot of scanners before settling on this one, which seemed like an excellent scanner for a good price. I don't have much film, but I do have many thousand of pictures to scan.

GREAT, especially for an "amateur".

  • Excerpt: Scanning photos collected for the past 50 years. Large, small, clear, faded, B&W, color, all manners of curly. V550 does a great job recovering lost detail. Easy installation - important for a computer illiterate like me. : )
  • Pros: Accurate Color, Easy To Set Up, Good Resolution
  • Cons: Slow

Very good with one caveat

ABHalsey, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: Works very well, although the film holder is poor. It is hard to get the film to stay in place, and almost impossible if the film is curled. Other than that it works very well. Slides are not a problem.
  • Pros: Accurate Color, Easy To Set Up, Widely Compatible

Good scans for the price

  • Excerpt: I purchased this scanner mainly for digitizing thousands of slides. I had considered a dedicated film scanner before, but this flatbed scanner is more versatile and very economical. The scanner does not automatically work with Linux OS and the drivers provided on the Epson website are no good.
  • Pros: Accurate Color, Easy To Set Up
  • Cons: No Linux Support, Poor Software, Slow

Great Scanner! (Be Warned: DIGITAL ICE does not work on printed images - only film/slides)

Dennis Haynes, Amazon
2 January 2015
  • Summary: This printer was an amazingly good purchase. It's ability to scan slides, negatives and other film AND color fix old photos is fantastic and easy. THE ONE DOWNSIDE is that Epson expands on the virtues of the "Digital ICE" software that can remove scratches from old photos and what they don't care to...

Works great

4 December 2014
  • Excerpt: I knocked off 1 star because there is no Linux support, so I had to run it through my Windows computer for it to work.Scan quality is great. Speed is average to slow, depending on resolution. I used it to scan 35mm slides, to which it did a great job.

Excellent scan quality -- complex user interface

KodachromeFan, Epson
28 November 2014
  • Summary: I replaced my old scanner which was giving poor quality after 10 years. Right away, I was pleased with the quality of scan. I am scanning my slide collection. This is a slow process and the slide handler is a little cumbersome -- but it is comparable with scanners in this price range.
