Reviews and Problems with Epson Perfection V100 PHOTO

not bad for $35
11 December 2010
Summary: well for $35 plus shipping for a native 3200x9600 8x12 scanner with USB2.0, 2" of lid-play and a film holder, it's not bad. Certainly does a decent job scanning 35mm film which is the reason that I bought it. I do wish the V300 that I won at the same time (got caught between two auctions) had actually come in so I could compare it to this, but I think the V100 is fine for generating 30MP or so from 35mm film.
Summary: Having photo prints I wanted to put on the computer, and an all-in-one printer which refuses to scan photo prints through the rollers, I needed a flat-bed scanner. This one filled the bill perfectly. Though used, it worked fine, and was very easy to operate, so now those photos are on the computer (and some have been emailed to family).
Summary: I bought this as a replacement for older, slower scanner. I liked the option to scan negatives - I also used it to digitize my 50+ film rolls. The resolution and the color is great, its pretty fast for home use and the software is allright. Taking off a star because the buttons (on the scanner) don't really work. I was told that this is a common problem for all usb scanners, nevertheless if you add a button - please make sure it works.
Summary: I guess I was lucky - I have scanned over 600 slides without any particular problem in terms of quality or undue cropping. It does 4 at a time which is handy as long as you can use a common setting for all 4. Very slow once beyond 600 dpi.
Summary: To clarify after the previous reviews: The wires for the USB and power attach on the LONG side, right by the four buttons. Yes, there is a slot that looks like it was intended to hold them, they probably found that there was interference, so YES there is a warning not to use those slots, to let the wires hang. The Hinge is also on the same long side, so, if you are putting this on a shelf, with the long side on the back wall and the wires hanging down, then you're fine.
Summary: I had this scanner for well over a year and has done everything it was advertised in dose a berry good scan in general, high quality scanning over 9600 DPI it is little slow but very clear and most of all good color balance, not like hp 3800,6300 were the hue was all way of from pre scans to actual scan in pre scan hp looked fine but it was all ways of by 30 point in the green.
Pros: Een mooie scanner.
