Epson Perfection 3490 Flatbed Scanner

mybarnsale70, Ebay
6 July 2010
  • Summary: I bought the 3490 scanner when I bought my iMac, mainly for the price, it was around $99 new. I've been using it for slides, film strip, photos (blk. & wht, color) and magazines. It is EASY to use and has always worked flawlessly. I just retired it and bought the Epson V600 scanner. The V600 handles 120 film as well as 35mm or 2 1/4 X 2 1/4 slides. It's physically a larger scanner (larger footprint). I paid $249 for the V600.

Best Home Scanner Around at a Really Affordable Price

mini_disco, Ebay
26 April 2010
  • Summary: With VueScan, it does a great job scanning negatives. It's a bit tricky to scan cross processed slides but it's still doable with further processing either in lightroom or photoshop. It does not scan 120 film though.

nice for scanning slides and photo negatives too

Max, Amazon
2 February 2008
  • Summary: Nice for scanning slides and photo negatives too. I like it very much. I tried other scanners for scanning slides and photo films and the quality of scanning slides and films was poor. This scanner is very good for slides and films: it is not sensitive to the fact that the films are not flat - everything seems to be in focus, and I can see the film grain pretty well on the scan (at resolution 3600 pixels per inch). The time of scanning is reasonable.

GREAT for slides

Ariel Fisher "Mermaid in the Shade", Amazon
23 March 2006
  • Summary: So far I've only tried it on slides. In PRO MODE it works WONDERS. 3 at a time, takes about a minute per slide at about 1800+2000 pixels, 300dpi. each pic JPG is about 200K in size. And you can freely change the size to smaller or larger, or change the area to be scanned to just a cropped portion of any or all 3 slides. GREAT bundled software, and a fabulous product for under $100. Can't wait to try negatives and hard copy stuff.
