Summary: How about that! I recently found this scanner at a thrift store and I am very pleased to say that it is singing in tandem with my 4 year old macbook pro, running on 10.5.8. I checked the epson site to make sure there was a driver for it and also found a link for users who are running LION! Thank you EPSON. It took a little patience for me to get it to produce what I think are impressive scans of both negatives and 35mm slides.
Summary: I bought the scanner primarily to scan photographic negatives. It has more than fulfilled my need. It came with two software programs that run it, and it took some time to learn them, but they work very well. The quality of the scans has exceeded my expectations. Although this model has been discontinued and replaced with a newer model, I would recommend it to any one that can still get one.
Summary: The Photo negative capability in scanning! Descriptive information. Explain your reasons for the rating you gave the product. Pros and cons. Write about both the things you like and dislike about the product. Proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Write clearly and to the point. Don't include: Off-topic comments. Information directly copied (plagiarized) from other reviews or sources. Inappropriate remarks, personal attacks, or profanity.
Summary: Great prosumer level scanner. Don't get it unless you are prepared to clean up dust specks in the final image, because it picks up everything in the image. Color is quite accurate as a direct scan for flatbed. Scanning slides and negatives is a little time comsuming, but fair to good quality scans come out of it. I knew what I was getting when I bid on it. I've used this scanner alot. Needed a second for backup!
Summary: We had purchased this scanner about 8 years. Of course at the time is was considered to be top of the line. Through many moves some of the software and accessories were lost. My husband contacted Epson to order the parts, but they no longer carried them....this particular scanner new was 700.00. We looked here on ebay and found the same exact product for around 60.00, all software and accessories include.
Summary: Very satisfied with the quality and performance of this scanner. It outperformed the scanner that it replaced in every way. I am using it to scan 126 size and larger negatives and the results have been much better than anticipated.
Summary: The scans I'm doing with 4x5 film are stunning. Beautiful color, rich B&W tonal ranges, great shadow detail (DMax), and surprisingly fast scans. I'm doing 3200 dpi scans of 4x5 transparencies, black and white and color negatives. I'm rez'ing to 400 dpi and 40x50" prints. They look terrific. The holder is very good. Whereas I was having trouble with flatness on my newer Epson 4490 scanner, the flatness of the 4x5 film is better.
Summary: Shortly after purchasing the unit, I discovered something that looks like fog on the inside of the glass on the top fourth or so. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to affect image quality. I checked again tonight for this review and I don't see any (this is a first) so it must be related to the weather. It was there yesterday.
