Summary: I have had this scanner for so long. Now that I have a new operating system (Windows 7 64 bit) I can no longer use it. Why because EPSON refuses to give us a driver for it. Epson is as bad as NIKON. I have a NIKON top of the line slide scanner & like Epson they refuse to come out with a new driver for it. Well we can get even with these manufacturers - don't buy any of their products anymore. I give the scanner 5 stars. I give EPSON 0 stars.
Summary: I've had this scanner for as long as I can remember. It must be at least 8 years old. I've never had any problems with it, and I use it A LOT. I love how it looks super old school, but it can keep with with scanners twice or three times its price range. It's super fast and works with all my software. Epson has done a great job keeping up with Mac OS X drivers for this scanner. I recently purchased the transparency adapter (EU-33).
Summary: This product was exactly what I had needed and wanted. The price, the features, and the picture of it were the deciding factors that convinced me to purchase it. I wish I could show you some of the things that I can and have done with it.
Summary: I'm not a professional user, but I tried three different scanners in the Epson's price range and only the Epson provided me with essentially perfect scans right out of the box. I detected no color bias, excellent contrast range and the ability to duplicate (or improve) the original. Other reviews on the 'net bear this out.
Summary: I didnt understand how to use the negative photo scanner and when I figured it out --- I LOVE IT!!! It is SO EASY, if you bought this and your not satisfied with the photo scanner, your doing it wrong; I was doing it wrong and when I figured it out -- I LOVE IT!!! My photo's are sharp and clear. I can edit, enhance the color, and the photo touch up is a breeze. I can scan documents - everything and anything.
Summary: my friend charles has one he love's it ,I tried every every thing to get one every sales person sing's their praise of epson perfection 1200u but can not tell you how to get one.. even Epson home page tells me to take a # and will get back when in stock every broker on line says the same thing..
Summary: if you own redhat 7 (or downloaded it) or a recent kernel /w usb backport patch, you can use this scanner without fiddling with anything but plugging it in and setting up "SANE". (set module to epson and set path to /dev/usb/scanner) i use linux for nearly 5 years now and had terrible problems with scanners (i never owned a scsi one) but this one is great. it scanes fast like the devil and the quality is great. happy gimping!!!
Summary: I must start by saying that Amazon is offering this scanner at a great price. Plus if you are buying a printer or other Epson products to go along with your scanner, go to Epson's website and check for any rebates over there. This scanner provides great quality scans. It comes ready with a transparency unit that allows you to scan 35mm negative or positive film, brownie size film (2.4x3.5in), 4x5 film, and slides.
Summary: Compared to other scanners on the market, the Epson 1200U is a great buy. This is my second scanner and it is vastly superior to my last. Enough praise cannot be heaped onto the software, from the Twain driver to the 3rd party software bundle. Installation via the USB connection lived up to all the promise of USB- quick, easy and flawless (I'm running W98SE, which is none of those things). Within 10 minutes of opening the box I was producing great looking images.
