The Expression 10000XL is a flatbed scanner equipped with Epson’s Color Matrix Charged Coupled Device (CCD) line sensor and a Xenon gas cold cathode fluorescent lamp. It measures 25.8 x 7.8 x 18.0 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 39.7 pounds. This scanner connects to computers via USB or FireWire (IEEE 1394) and is compatible with Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.

The Epson Expression 10000XL offers a 48-bit color depth. It features a built-in Micro Step Drive technology which produces 87,840 effective pixels per line and a maximum hardware resolution of 2400 x 4800 dpi. This resolution can be expanded to 12,800 x 12,800 using the included software. When in draft mode, the 10000XL can scan at speeds from 16.0 milliseconds per line (Color) to 5.3 milliseconds per line (Line Art).

This flatbed scanner has a maximum read area of 12.2 x 17.2 inches. It comes with a transparency adapter that measures 12.2 x 16.5 inches. Using this adapter, the Expression 10000XL can scan 35-millimeter slides, film strips, 4 x 5-inch, and medium format transparencies.

The Epson Expression 10000XL has an AutoFocus optics system and offers up to 7 brightness levels. It can zoom in and out between 50% to a maximum of 200% in 1% increments.

The 10000XL ships with LaserSoft Imaging SilverFast Ai 6, Adobe Photoshop Elements, ABBYY FineReader Sprint OCR, Monaco EZcolor, and Epson Scan with Epson Easy Photo Fix.
