Summary: I've had this scanner for almost a week now and I'm happy. I've used the Fujitsu Scansnap scanner before and I liked that one also, but this one seems to have a better grasp on the mechanics needed to prevent jamming and other issues that I've experienced with the scansnap. I don't love the software interface and blank pages are not always detected, but that seems relatively trivial in the grand scheme of things.
Summary: I have used the DR-M160 for several weeks now and overall am very satisfied with my purchase. The scanner is compact and efficient, and its feeder is heartrendingly competent. After years of tears with a very expensive Hewlett-Packard flatbed scanner which regularly failed, this Canon machine is a dream come true. I've thrown my toughest pitches at it and it connects solidly each time. Even those endless toilet paper receipts that retail stores pump out feed flawlessly.
Summary: I have a small office and I have 4 other Canon scanners and this one beats them all. It is very fast and it hasn't jammed or double fed any paper so far. I just ordered another one for my other office.
Summary: First I had the Epson GT-S80 which was a mistake, since it scanned rapidly, but would not permit another scan until the PC finished the OCR, which was slow. It also named files with sequential numbers based on the highest number in the scan directory so that when you moved files around, files would wind up with the same name. The Epson was really a poorly thought out machine. Then I got the Canon DR-M160. It was almost perfect.
Summary: I was using the Epson GS50 and it worked well for awhile and then it became very difficult to feed anything in to it and it became quite frustrating. I cleaned it as best I could and searched everywhere for a solution, but could find nothing. Someone recommended the Fujitsu fi 6130Z and I was set to buy it but the reviews on the Canon DRM 160 were compelling, most reviewers mentioned how good the rollers were and simplicity of installation and software.
Summary: The Canon Image Formula DR-M160 scanner has exceeded my expectations. The scanner is incredibly fast, the scan image quality is impressive and the software is intuitive. I bought the Canon scanner on the recommendation of a colleague. Initially, I was hesitant to purchase the unit because of its high price. I have no reservations now; this scanner puts my old units to shame and it makes my business more productive.
