Ecological disaster

Guido McHale "technofreak", Amazon
25 July 2014
  • Summary: This was a great scanner until I upgraded my OS to Win 7. Cannon never invested the resources ( maybe 1 day) to creating drivers for this scanner to make it work with Win 7 or 8. Hence, a perfectly good scanner ends up in a landfill to pollute the earth. Cannon has a whole slew of products destined for the landfill because they want you to buy newer products. Here is a link to their "Ecological Concern" site....

The USB connection and plug-and-play installation will have you up and running in no time, while the one-touch buttons allow you to e-mail, print, and copy images without referring to a user's manual.

My CanoScan has longevity

J. F. Sarile, Amazon
11 May 2007
  • Summary: I've had my 670U since 2001, and it's given me great service. It takes up very little space(still slimmer than many contemporary scanners), still gives great imaging for a 6 year old scanner, and, with a recent driver update, WINDOWS VISTA COMPATIBLE! This must be the best $[...] or so I spent for a computer peripheral.

Very good basic scanner, but scanning results are variable

Joseph A. Admire, Amazon
29 April 2007
  • Summary: Pro: extremely lightweight - I've carried it on multiple occasions to the Library of Congress to use in research projects there (yes, they allow researchers to use scanners - and digicams too!), low price (I bought mine for $40), easy to use, Canon's specially designed cover that allows you to scan books and other such material much more easily than many other brands, sturdy and durable (I forget how many thousands of pages I've scanned over the last three years or so,...
