Software is Pathetic

ElderGeek, Canon
25 May 2014
  • Conclusion: I bought this to upgrade from a LiDE 600. Nice, solid scanner absolutely undermined by software apparently designed as a high-school programming project. No logic or rhyme or reason for menu options, poor, slow results. I've had to buy third-party software (PaperScan) to make it usable. I know I'm a mere novice (57 years in the computer industry), but this scanner gets less use than the older LiDE 600 Ihave.
  • Pros: Compact Design, vertical install
  • Cons: Difficult to use

Skip this one....

Shayno, Canon
6 August 2012
  • Conclusion: My main dislike of this scanner is that when I want to use it it takes forever to get it to respond. I have to unplug it from the computer several times before it comes to life. This should not be---all you should do it click on the scanner icon. Definitely will not buy another Canon scanner!

disappointed

bpowell, Canon
21 April 2012
  • Conclusion: was very disappointed. product was reported to do 9600dpi output, but the best it would ever do was 2400dpi, without erring. and that took 6 minutes for an 8x10 photo. Utilities provided only allow 600 dpi as output from the options menus. So had to use native utilities to even get that level of output.

Not for anything except completely flat documents

Villageman, Amazon
1 August 2011
  • Summary: I purchased this from Amazon to replace a 10 year old scanner. So far I have been quite disappointed with the scanner. It seems to have such a narrow focus depth that anything that is not absolutely flat loses focus. Scanning a receipt that has been folded for example you can barely read anything that does not touch the glass. Even worse is the film scanning attachment. I have a number of complaints about the film scanning.

Not like earlier CanoScan Copiers

Amazon Customer, Amazon
25 February 2010
  • Summary: We have used Canon scanners for 20 years in our business. All worked more or less the same. "Improvements" in this model have about driven us crazy: you cannot set the scanner to 'multi-crop' permanently....you have to preview and rescan every time to make this work. finding the correct output program for the images, in order to edit and save, has also proved problematic.

poor film scans

A. Ostling, Amazon
17 June 2009
  • Summary: This scanner does a good job of scanning prints and documents. But the accessory film scan device is virtually unusable. My results were hopelessly out of focus. I contacted the Canon service center, and after they had seen my emailed scans, they agreed that something was amiss. I sent the scanner back (along with my test negatives), and they sent a replacement unit.

Misleading description

John Feather "fit4lit", Amazon
11 May 2009
  • Summary: This scanner will scan photo prints and documents at a maximum of 600 dpi, and film at a maximum of 4800x4800, not 9600x9600 as stated in the description. If you are scanning slides (positive film), you need to remove each slide from it's holder, place it in the film holder, which is designed for strips of film, place the separate film unit over the top, close the lid and click on scan. A 1200 dpi scan takes about a minute, a 4800 scan takes seven minutes.

Am besten für Dokumente

F. Fuchs, Amazon
21 February 2014
