Summary: I have had my previous canoscan 1240NU for more than 4 years now and decided to give it away to an associate and purchased this newer model. The scanning is much faster, crispier but the noise is killing my ears. It is high pitch and loud too. This wasn't the case with my previous canoscan. Another problem is that it is much thicker than the previous scanner. I am so tempted to return this scanner and get my old one back.
Summary: It's compact, speedy, doesn't require any power supply but USB, delivers good result for the money, but this thing produces very annoying high-pitch noise. I use it at work, at the collection of comments from my co-workers is growing fast. Of course, a scanner is a scanner, and you can't expect any pleasing soothing sounds from it, but, still, I expected something better from Canon.
Summary: On the basis of other reviews here, I bought the LiDE70. It lasted less than a day. I love this scanner for its slim size, feature set, speed, and software. I just couldn't take the sound. The gear to move the scanning head is... as loud as a coffee-grinder. It's as loud as my dustbuster (and the sound quality is roughly as annoying, because it's high-pitched). It's louder than my shredder. I think it's as loud as the loudest dot-matrix printer I ever had.
Excerpt: After years of use my Agfa finally packed up and repair, whilst possible, would have cost more than a replacement machine. I'd seen an earlier Canon and was impressed by the size and functions offered so bought the latest model. Very easy to set up, just run the cd and choose the full install. When it's all done restart machine and plug in the scanner.
Pros: small size, one button operation, no power supply needed
Excerpt: We purchased this scanner for our home last month. We needed a machine which would be useful for scanning a bucketful of old photographs which we wanted to preserve so needed something which would be cheap but fast and simple to operate. The Canoscan filled all of these criterea perfectly. It was very reasonably priced compared to other scanners of a similar spec.
Pros: Fast, light, single cable, easy to use, does't take up too much room : D
Excerpt: We recently looked to buy a scanner, which would be used to make a photo into a digital image (for enhancments etc). We looked at a number of scanners available and found that there were a fair number available. We initially looked at the multi function printer/scanners, but were put off by the sheer lack of quality (plus there is more to go wrong). This particular model however was perfect for our needs. It is lightweight and easy to use.
Pros: No extra power supply required . Easy to use .
Excerpt: I recently purchased a canon scanner for my husbands birthday. When trying to decide which to buy I took into consideration price , size, style and more than anything the specifications. We did also want something which was easy to get up and running and for a novice. Up to now we have not been dissappointed. This scanner requires 64 MB of RAM but 128 MB is recommended. You need at least windows 98. We are using windows XP.
Pros: Looks good,slim, space saving,easy to use,good features,not noisy,good results
