Nice scanner, must have dvd drive to install all software

Ceridwen "VR", Amazon
10 August 2014
  • Summary: Nice scanner, but needs a dvd for installation. Note for some newer laptops this might be an issue as they do not have a dvd drive. I thought I would be able to down load all of the needed software and was disappointed to have to use the dvd. Maybe the new model will not have this issue, don't know. But for all of those users with new MacBooks (no dvd drive) I thought I would mention this.

Manufacturer's software yuck!

no_name, Amazon
26 July 2014
  • Summary: Pros: - Works out of the box without any additional drivers (Linux). - Small device - Simple design - Fast at lower resolutions Cons: - Canon's current windows software sucks really. I am sorry to say that. But I was expecting something like the old simple CanoScan Scangear. A simple scanner should have also a simple SW user interface. - Respect, how well the setting for the higher resolutions are hidden. - Resolutions higher than 1200dpi are useless.

Not for advanced users

Tom, Canon
25 February 2014
  • Conclusion: Pros - Easy to use for average users. Single cord - no need for a power cord or power supply brick. This is a major plus if you're traveling with this scanner, or occasionally need to place it in the middle of a large table to scan large items. Neutral - Not any faster than the 12+ year-old scanner it was replacing.

Great scanner, lousy software

Tom, Canon
3 October 2013
  • Conclusion: Horrible software packages. Finding the right way through complicated, over-sophisticated menus to find a simple way to scan a document and save it is a big hassle. After reinstalling my PC I thought it would be a shortcut to download the software, but I still had to download, try, delete a couple of packages. Why does it have to be so time consuming to get going with this scanner???
  • Pros: Compact Design, High-speed scanning
  • Cons: Difficult to use, lack of simplicity

software difficult to understand

Careful Shopper, Amazon
29 August 2013
  • Summary: I would not recommend this product. The software was very difficult to understand. We needed the help of our son a computer expert to figure it out. We were ready to return item until he helped us out. Once installed and after some use, it was OK. The installation also said "a driver was missing" but that did not hurt ultimate use.

Don't scan textbooks, scratches inside glass

Trahloc, Amazon
6 July 2013
  • Summary: Don't scan material from a heavy book like a textbook. You'll scratch the inside glass. If you're looking to scan anything with any weight to it they designed this thing to have sharp bits on the scanner head which then scratches the inside of the glass. If you're looking to just scan single sheets or photographs then +1 star.

Broke after 20 scans

INeedToScan, Canon
9 June 2012
  • Conclusion: The bulb in the scanner would work on an off. Now after about 20 scans the bulb never lights up. How can this thing be broken after barley being used.

User Review

gracie, Canon
29 December 2011
  • Conclusion: For the money, the CanoScan LiDE 210 is okay. I am a Mac user and have had other scanners that scan directly to iPhoto. This scanner does not do that. You must scan to the desktop, several steps involved here, or use the e-mail function and drag from the e-mail to iPhoto. Either of these steps is time consuming when a large number of photos are being scanned. I supposed if you are a Windows user, it might be okay. I am very disappointed in this.
