Conclusion: The scanned is difficult to use and forward scanned images. It is also slow but I recognize I did buy a lower quality machine. I have had it for less than months and use it about once a week. the light source quit working.
Conclusion: This one was very good for the first few months, but all of sudden it does not work after using 5-6 months, especially I only use 1-2 times in average per week and only scan 1-2 pages of my document each. I am disappointed as Canon is no longer to repair/fix this model at all.
Pros: Compact Design, High resolution, easy to use
Summary: The only reason why I bought this item is because it was stated in the item description that you can scan LEGAL SIZE DOCUMENTS. It even mentions that the maximum paper size is LEGAL (8.5" x 14"). Although I received the item brand new, I was disapointed to find out that those claims are TOTALLY FALSE. The maximum scanning area on the flatbed is for an A4 paper size. A4 IS NOT A LEGAL SIZE. A4 is some inches shorter than the legal size. I call that FALSE ADVERTIZING.
Summary: The scanner is okay, but what good is a scanner without scanning software? The software disk was indeed enclosed, but neither of my computers could open it. I went online to the Canon site and downloaded something called MP Navigator EX 4.0. It's really pretty lame compared to the software that came with my ancient HP scanner, which was a breeze to use and very versatile. The Canon software has a Print function.
Summary: I've checked and rechecked the drivers (multiple reinstallations), and it still often scans black (the scanning light won't work). I've tried the Canon software as well as other scanning programs. I usually have to unplug and plug it in multiple times before it will work once, and then by the next time I try to use it the light won't turn on again. It's not worth the hassle, I wish I had purchased a nicer unit. When it does work, it works as expected.
Summary: Enough to drive you crazy. I have had two of this model and one of the previous version. They apparently all do this. If you need to scan documents with lots of vertical and horizontal lines near the outside of the page, you can easily see that the final scan is not straight (although the original is perfect and lined up on the scanner glass. Went through everything possible with Canon with no resolution. Amazon was great though with the returns.
Summary: The software that came with this scanner is terribly difficult to use. One cannot simply save a file in a format that works for him, but instead must save the file in a PDF. In order to pull the image into a Word document one has to open the PDF file, print screen and paste that image into a JPG. It is as clooogy as it gets. My old HP scanner, which worked for over 10 years before it died, had a much simpler interface. The help feature on this Canon is hard to find.

Summary: This scanner, purchased at Amazon, creates nice looking .jpg and .pdf files from my DELL running XP. The electronic User's Guide is nicely done. HOWEVER: I own 2 HP printers, and pressing the scanner software's "Print" button gives a pop-up message, "The printer driver supported by this software is not installed..." for both HP printers. I've spent over 16 hours in one day working with Canon, HP, and Dell to resolve this problem, and that costs a bundle.
Summary: I received the scanner and it was very easy to setup. It required no power connection except that which was provided by the USB port. Software and driver installation was a snap and within minutes the scanner was working. I used it for both black and white documents and color scanning. Unfortunately everything I scanned with the device was lopsided. What I did scan looked terrific even on 300 and 600 DPI settings.
Summary: I purchased this from Staples and scanned a pile of pictures one weekend (about 50)....I figured if it was not going to withstand the amount of pictures I have to scan this weekend then it will let me know - sure enough, after awhile it stopped auto cropping. I took it back and they gave me my refund.
