Summary: This scanner offers high quality scans and is very easy to use. The only 2 things bad about it are: 1. it takes a while to scan. almost 2 minutes per picture 2. If you use Windows XP you have to search long and hard on the web for a device driver that works. the software included doesn't work with Windows XP.
Summary: As this is my first scanner i am obviously going to be a bit biased in my decision. Anyway, i really do like this scanner because of the way it stores pictures in a seperate folder for every day if you so choose. And that is only one of the many choices, another is that you can choose the size or format that you want the document or picture saved as. There are even add ons that i didn't get that you can.
Summary: I have used this scanner for a little over a year now, and it really provides incredible results on printed and other opaque materials. Colors are very true (perhaps a slight warming on the color-temperature, as others have mentioned), and sharpness is fantastic. The scan-times were relatively slow, but an upgrade to a USB 2.0 card on my computer (cost me about $20) solved that problem. Scans times are very acceptable now.
Summary: I'm impressed with this scanner, and currently use the USB 2.0 speed. Needless to say, speed is the keyword here! I am so sick of slow scanners - they drove me nuts for years. Let's get to the facts: I wrote to Canon with questions before purchasing this item. The unit scans at 4 msec / line (at 600 dpi), and 8 msec / line (at 1200 dpi) for either color or black and white. This is twice as fast as the Epson brands I was considering with USB 2.0 capability.
Summary: I am a price concious consumer when it comes to my computer equipment and this item has blown me away. The color fidelity for Color and Black & White negative scanning this is the best I have seen for scanners in this price range. 8.5x11 Platen scanning is equally as impressive, the installation was quick and easy and USB 2.0 makes overall speed more than satisfying in comparrison to other products.
Summary: Where is the fourth EZ button? Probably meant to add on off switch and forgot. This is not as fast as has been described. Using USB 2.0 and average resolution still sitting and waiting for scan to finish 20 to 40 seconds.
