Summary: I bought this scanner as a replacement. As I have had excellent results with several Canon products in the past, including printers and cameras, I was confident the CanoScan would perform well too. It does. It produces excellent results, is easy to use and fast. I would highly recommend this model for professional results in a compact design.
Summary: I bought this scanner base on the discription of its capabilities. It does everything that canon say it is capable of doing, and it does very well. all my needs for a photo scanner have been met.An excellent photo scanner..very highly recomended.
Summary: I agree with the review by Member id rensingermb. However, I can't really complain about the performance of this scanner. I had been a HP person for a LONG time; I have owned 4 HP scanners since the 90's. But when I switched over to Win 7, HP has made NO moves to try to make their 4000 series scanners "talk" to Win 7. What a shame. The Canon scanner has performed remarkably well, so I am going to switch over to being a Canon person. I am more than satisfied.
Summary: Living in a New York City apartment limits one's options when it comes to little perks, such as home darkrooms. So, when I decided to start shooting and developing film again I knew that a scanner was the solution. I researched the options and chose the Canon SC8800F based on three basic requirements. The first was the ability to scan medium format negatives.

Summary: Like other reviewers, I had an "old school" HP scanner that cost me hundreds of dollars and took *forever* to warm up the old lamp. Scanning a high resolution photo on that old HP scanner required packing a picnic lunch so you wouldn't starve while waiting for it to finish. I very nearly paid a local photo shop $2 a slide to do 100 scans for me.
