Cropping and image flaws detract from nice machine

Summary: There are many things to recommend this scanner, but I have experienced a few issues that have marred my experience: 1) The Navigator EX software that performs the scanning poorly crops the images and does not allow the user to specify the border of the crops. As a result I often get clipped images or extra borders. Consequently I have to check each scanned photo manually to make sure the edges have been captured.
Summary: great scanner one of the very best i have ever used and i have done thousands of scans on this machine, very easy to operate and install, does a great job and bought it at a great price, works great with mac conputers and would buy another one just like it, the 8800 is one of the best scanners on the market for the price.
Summary: I'm a Canon guy. I've bought 6 Canon cameras over the last 12 years and loved them all. This scanner was a disappointment. I scanned an 8x10 photo and when I looked at the image it had lines and imperfections that were not in the image itself. I figured the glass needed cleaning. The manual suggested nothing on the proper way to clean the glass (another basic gap) so I used Windex and a camera lens shammy. I scanned again. Lines and imperfections till there.
Summary: I was excited to get my new scanner for Christmas. My excitement quickly faded. I opened PhotoStudio 5.5 by ArcSoft as directed in the instructions that came with the scanner. As soon as I did so, I got a message telling me that PhotoStudio wasn't compatible with Windows 7. I figured there would be an update to the software but found that an update would have to be purchased. At least ArcSoft's web site said that I'd receive a 20% discount off of the upgrade.
When buying to scan film, don't expect anything but 35mm format to work

Summary: Overall, I'm pleased with the 8800F when scanning documents or photographs, but not pleased when trying to scan non-standards slides or film other than 35mm. My scanner was purchased from Amazon in Oct 2009. It does come with 3 types of film holders, 35mm slides (holds 4 slides), the 120 roll film holder, and the 35mm negative film holder that can hold 2 strips of film.
