Cons: Please note: This review is based on experience with a new Mac on OS 10.6. Previous OS versions worked OK Non Functional with a new Mac. No TWAIN support found anywhere. Scanner actually created complex conflicts on the entire USB bus.
Summary: If I knew then what I know now I would not have bought this unit or any other scanner to archive family negatives, slides and photos. If you just want to easily scan, take red eye out, remove dust and scratches, save in raw format and tag, it doesn't come with software that can easily do that.
Pros: Good Hardware, probably but really haven't found the software yet that will do the basic functions I need to put it to the test. Big disappointment.
Cons: Really bad software I will probably have to spend 119.00 for SilverFast Ai program for easily taking red eye out, scratches and dust then try to use free Picasa for tagging and organizing. I have a lot of negatives and etc and need to have a program that will quickly let me do this on hundred if ...
Update: It's like buying a new computer with XP loaded in!

Summary: This is a nice mid range scanner I think marketed for us digital scrapbookers and I don't understand why Canon doesn't provide a user friendly editing software like SilverFast bundled rather than the very old version and non intuitive Photoshop that requires we become mini graphic experts.
Pros: I think it is a good scanner but have yet to find a reasonably priced software that will actually will utilize it's functionality to the max.
Cons: I was just about to buy Silver Fast Ai for editing software to replace the old PSE 5.0 that is bundled with this when I found out that Canon Europe is now bundling SilverFast SE with their new 8800f scanners. I am really upset that folks in the U.S. get a very old PSE instead of the SilverFast.
DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK if you have an Apple computer.

Summary: The Omnipage software that comes with this DOES NOT WORK with an Apple PC and on their website and on the box they ship you it says it does. We had to return this item since it did not work on Apple computers and we thought the vendor was extremely deceptive and offered the worst customer support...
Cons: bugs in Adobe Elements 5.0. (adding audio narration does not work for the slide show creator; my hardware works as I have used this function repeatedly with MS movie maker). Adobe no longer supports this version, suggested I upgrade for ~$100. I purchased this scanner because it included Adobe El...

Summary: I have owned the Canon Canoscan 8800f for several years. It is a good scanner, and I have just discovered that it is not compatible with Windows 10. Well, you can still use it, but not convenient. Canon has no plans for providing a new driver for this model. I am disappointed.
Summary: It was tough for me to decide on how many stars to give this. I bought this scanner to scan my slides, 35mm film, photos, but especially the many rolls of 110 film that I shot back in the '70s/'80s with my old Vivitar camera. It scans everything BUT the 110 film great.
Summary: This thing was ok, if a little unreliable, for the past two years since I bought it. One problem it had over and over again, though, was that the power cord and usb cable kept falling out of the back, making me crazy because I knew I had just plugged them in the week before.
