Summary: I bought this scanner to digitize about 500 old 127 format film slides which had faded over the years. The Canon product literature clearly states that this scanner will accept these slides. Well, the literature is incorrect, and the Canon tecnical representative admitted, to his surprise, that there was an error.
Excerpt: About six years ago, a visiting relative wanted to buy us a gift - something for the computer, he suggested. I commented that our old scanner had pretty much stopped working, and he suggested a new one. We brainstormed a little, and came up with the following criteria: - Easy to use - Reasonable quality copying - Able to take A4 sheets - No need to be attached to a printer as we have one - Compatible with MacOS or Windows Then we started thinking about what we would...
Pros: Scans different media including negatives and slides, good quality, easy installation, rugged
Cons: Only four slides at a time, a little slow, takes up a lot of space
Excerpt: The canon Canoscan 8600F are best suited for reflective scanning and film of greater size that 35mm. For large format and medium format film it is quite good actually and should allow you to make large print from your scan. Images are a tad soft straight from the scanner but respond well to USM sharpening. For regular 35mm film scans will be good for smaller prints and work just fine if your main goal is to use your images for web use and digital albums.
Pros: Nice and fast for reflective scanning, good result from film at larger sizes .
Cons: Not good enough for large prints of scanned 35mm film .
Excerpt: Scanning prints or pphotographs is ok. Speed is generally good. The PDF support is good. It will scan Slides using Silversoft but only one at a time and you can't use FARE. Which is the dust removal technology and is essential if you want good scans. The Canon driver does the bulk scanning and basically crashes every time at the end of a scan. I can't belive they let it out of the factory! Even the latest one. So bulk scanning is out of the question.
Pros: Scans are speedy not the fastest though
Cons: Canon drivers don't work - so no Bulk scanning& can't use FARE
Excerpt: I own a small printers and my back-ground is in Graphic Design so when I look for a scanner I look for one that is easy to use but can supply quality high resolution images that can be used for a professional looking finished product and the Canon CanoScan 8600F never fails to deliver the results I am after.
Pros: Nice resolution, quick and easy to use, professional quality scanner
Summary: Ottimo scanner su windows, qualità di immagine e velocità eccellenti!
