Although it's a bit slow and comes with little software, the Canon CanoScan 5600F offers lots of value thanks to its high-quality scans and low price. Read more

    • High-quality scans of both prints and film (slides and negatives). LED light source for reflective scans eliminates warm-up time.
    • Scans only four slides or one strip of film at a time. Dust and scratch removal feature does little for scratches.

Looking over my shoulder recently, I was surprised at how much I have come to depend on a scanner. Early on, I had a love/hate relationship with desktop scanners, mainly because of their early and fiddly operating software. And don’t bring up the topic of dedicated film scanners! I trashed my fax machine and its dedicated phone line a while ago time ago. Today, if I need to fax anything it gets scanned, saved as a JPEG or PDF, then attach it to an email. Easy. Read more

Although not top of the range, the CanoScan CS5600F is a well-specified flatbed scanner with an attractive price tag and could appeal to everyday consumers who need to scan both reflective originals (such as documents and prints) and images on film. Capable of 4800 x 9600 dpi (dots/inch) resolution and up to 48-bit colour depth it has a built-in film adaptor that accepts up to six frames on 35mm filmstrip or four mounted 35mm slides at a time. The first thing I did was use the filmstrip scanner and I'll say that I am impressed with this feature alone. The scanned images look as good as when I had them printed out 11 years ago. It is fast and quiet too. It's bulky in length and height, but I've scanned 7 pictures at once which is a great timesaver. The software was really easy to use and broke up the separate pictures automatically, which is probably, hopefully a standard feature these days. Read more

I was a little disaapointed with the way the scanner came packaged from Newegg. The scanner arrived in the manufacturer's box (not a problem) and box lid was not sealed in any way for shipment. In other words, if someone wanted to take something out of the box while in transit all they would have had to do is flip the little cardboard flap down and flip the lid open. Read more

I used this to scan 35mm slides, 35mm color negatives and color slides, as well as 110mm color negatives (although this isn't part of the specifications). In order to scan 110mm negatives and have better control of the scanner's resolution and advanced features, you need to use the "Scanner Driver" mode instead of the default mode provided with the accompanying software. Does a good job with prints or slides, scans of negatives are overexposed and washed out. I bought 2 of these and the both do the same thing. Print scanner software is great and auto crops prints. The organizer software is clumsey and convoluted. Read more

I love my scanner. I've never owned one, but I've used them before, and now that I have one, especially this one, I am totally happy and able to take care of that extra part of business without going somewhere and paying out-of-pocket expenses to use one. It builds up, the money, that is, as you know. The cost of this was/is great, and I thank you for the sale. Read more or see product

  • Canonscan 5600F and not working with Windows Live Mail

I have bought the Canoscan 5600F, as i wanted a one hit button to scan a document straight to email (using Windows Live Mail)< This One Touch Button doesnt directly interface with Windows Live Mail. Please dont tell me to scan a document to Mty Docs, Then find the document, and email. I dont have that amount of time on this project. The old scanner was fabulous, but Canon hasnt got to grips with Windows Live Mail. There is a valid reason WHY I dont use Microsoft Outlook. Look forward to a solution.

  • Installation Problems with CANOSCAN 5600F

I just got my CanoScan 5600F delivered on Fri 23 Jan 09, and can't get anywhere with the installation disc provided. It seems an error occurs while the files are being copied at the point of registering the program information. This happens when using the installation disc, and also the driver downloaded from canon's australian website (which I did incase I got a dud disc with my purchase). Naturally there is no contact with Canon other than fax/phone and they are closed on the weekend.

  • Difference between 8800F and 5600F

What's the difference between the 8800F and the 5600F? Canon website is very ambiguous, showing more specs for the 8800F, but eliminating the same spec for the 5600F.

    Answered by nilufer 2009-04-08:

There are difference from the angle of height, weight, grayscale depth, and power consumption. But Canon 8800F is much better. Canon 8800F was specially design for Window

    Answered by issikiki 2009-07-03:

The 8800F lists only "white LED" as a light source. The 5600F lists "white LED and CCFL". That means one of the light source choices is CCFL (for film scanning), and there is a slight warm up time for the CCFL to stabilize. The 8800F also has a larger software bundle. They differ in weight and features.
