Summary: I bought this to replace my large flip top scanner that takes up too much space. This was simple to connect, simple to use and small enough to take with lap top when traveling. This item is small enough to keep on desk near lap top and very convenient to use.
Summary: The scanner is powered entirely by USB. It is duplex and it works much better than your traditional flatbed scanner. One thing to point out though is that it will not scan in color unless you use the scan software that comes with it. I assume that is a driver issue.
Summary: So glad I bought this unit it is easy to set up, easy to use, files everything easily into the folder you choose, offers to make another copy if you have a problem in the middle of a document....the black strip can be a problem, but if you load the pages fast enough it does not appear on the pages.
Summary: Once you get used to the software, it is an excellent scanner. I bought it to replace a Neat Reciept scanner that I thought was on its way to scanner heaven. After I purchased the Brother D700, I was able to bring the Neat Reciept scanner back to life. For a few dollars less than the Neat Reciept scanner, it makes filling the scanned images much easier. Even though both scanners now work, I decided the Brother D700 will be my primary scanner.
Summary: I have a Macbook Pro OS X 10.8.3. Before doing the installation I noticed the software on the disk was only good up to 10.7 . So I went to the brothers website to download the latest drivers for the scanner. The scanner worked fine. The scanner comes with other software from 3rd party vendor and I had to go the the 3rd party website to download the upgrades that support os x 10.8.3. I had no problems using the scanner or the software.
