False advertising on scanning to shared folders, horrible software

Alice, Amazon
  • Summary: The Amazon listing says, "You can also scan to a shared folder, email server, or FTP, to save, distribute, and share information." After pulling my hair out for hours trying to figure out how to get it to scan to a shared folder, I found this in the manual: "Scan to Network allows you to scan documents directly to a shared folder." However, it also says "ADS-1500W/ADS-1600W only".

Must install software that came together with the scanner

Shaiful, Amazon
  • Summary: Made my home office paperless. 5/5 I'd like to point out that installing the software is pretty much a must. Initially I used the driver that came together with Windows, but that limited the capabilities of the scanner. For example, the scanner is capable of scanning up to 1200dpi. The former driver limits scanning at only 300. So yeah, do install the software that came together with the scanner. And install from their website, because it's the most updated!

Accuracy

John H. Trotti, Amazon

  • Summary: The scanner is fast and simple to operate, but not as accurate as I had hoped...or indeed as accurate as the scanner in my Brother All In One machine I use at home.

A real workhorse

Wpbeech, Amazon
22 June 2014
  • Summary: I have scanned a lot of documents with this scanner. DO NOT try to overload it. It will only take about 6 or 8 pages (maybe a few more). Take your time, don't be in a rush and it will work fine for you. Every time you stop, it asks you if you want to continue or finish. Just say you want to continue and you can have a file of indeterminate size. You can save it to your hard drive and name it anything you want.

Disapointing

John G., Newegg
21 June 2014
  • Pros: It can scan documents when connected by USB to a Windows box.
  • Cons: After fully updating all software and firmware, can't connect to the unit with WIFI, even though it does get an IP from the router. Does not work with lubuntu. The documents I'm scanning are thinnish and there's quite a bit of bleed through in some areas. Pulls pages out of order from the sheet feeder.

Don't buy if you own a mac

Electronics buff, Amazon
12 June 2014
  • Summary: I bought this for the duplex feature and it's terrible. I have a document where some of the pages have content on both front and reverse sides and some of the pages have content on only the front side (blank on reverse). There are two options for scanning: the scan utility that comes with the Mac and the Brother's Control Center software: 1. Mac Scan Utility: Scans fast, but doesn't remove the blank pages.
