Summary: I like this circular saw - it's not too heavy and it does the job for me. I'm a left-handed older woman who does a lot of home repair. I only gave it 4 stars because it seems like there are only a couple of blades (fine and coarse) available in this size. I have both and the fine blade did a nice job of shortening some masonite doors for my closet. Someone else said that a disadvantage was that only left-handed people would like it - for me, that's great!
Summary: I bought this saw when I knew I had a lot of polycarbonate to cut for a job. It is a gem. It performed flawlessly and is lightweight and easy to use. The blade brake is fantastic and WELL worth the extra money. The reason for four stars instead of five is that although the 6.5" blade size is great for my purposes the local hardware store only stocks a couple blade options that size. Also, a saw like this chews through batteries pretty fast.
Summary: Great little cordless saw for small projects - unless you are cutting really big stuff, this saw should do the job well with no cord clutter. Not too heavy and easy to work with. The LED and brake are actually very nice features. The circular saws sold in the combo kits are generally the similar model BSS611Z, which is certainly cheaper, but does not have the angle cut, LED light, or brake feature. The brake alone is worth the extra $.
Summary: I have only used this a couple of times but I will compare it with my Craftsman Professional from about 2004, also 18 volt (but 5 1/2 inch). I used the Craftsman for years, it was a gift when I was still in school. I used to to build a few fences, shelves and a couple of other projects over the years. It still works well but the batteries are shot and the charger died.
Summary: I'll just quickly add my praise for an excellent product. After reading reviews I'm careful not to run the battery down too much. And I'd stick with using the high capacity cells with the saw - the run time is much better. The Makita saw cuts 3/4" exterior grade plywood sheets like butter. Yesterday, I cut wet, pressure-treated 2x6 boards for a 10' x 10' deck with just one stop to recharge the battery.
Summary: This product is perfect. Purchase this one as opposed to its cheaper sister. The added light and brake are worth the extra few bucks. This thing is amazing. Plywood, 2x4, doors, whatever. It chops right through it. I would fully recommend this to anyone.
Summary: This is an amazing tool. I thought my old NiCd version was great, but this version is awesome. Incredibly smooth and strong. Also, it shoots nearly all of dust through the exhaust shoot rather than through the bottom of the cut. I am extremely happy with this purchase. Makita is the best, by a long way.
Summary: I have been doing home maintenance and home DIY for 40 years. Consequently all my tools are old. Recently I was trying to make some cuts for my latest project and realized that my old saw was worn out. I have become a fan of the Makita 18 Volt LXT line of tools. This saw is an awesome addition to my toolbox. I chose this saw over the BSS611Z to get the light and cut blower. They are definitely worth the extra expense.
