Summary: Chances are, if you're reading reviews on this saw, you fall into one of two categories: 1) You have other Makita tools, and are looking to expand your collection/arsenal. or 2) You're considering buying a Makita set with batteries, and you're interested in the other tools in the family to see if you'll get your money's worth. Long story short, you are. In both cases, this saw is great.
Summary: THis is the smaller but very effective Makita cordless sawzall. I have the battery kit, and 4 total batteries. This bare tool was well worth it. The batteries are pricey, but they last. Unless you need to saw continuously for 1/2 an hour, the cordless is so convenient. I still carry an old Dewalt corded, and when need be it goes and goes.
Summary: Great to not need a cord when you need to make a couple quick cuts. My family has used Makita products for years and been happy with the quality and price of these products. The only complaint is that when batteries die, it is almost cheaper to buy new drills and throw out the old than it is to just replace the batteries.
Summary: So far, I've found this to be an excellent reciprocating saw, with strong battery life, all the necessary functionality and nothing you don't need in this type of equipment. As a non-professional user, I haven't put it through the paces in every type of situation or material but as soon as I received it I worked it pretty hard cutting some tree limbs, roots and other wood materials. The neoprene cover worked well in mitigating any heat to the hand. Blade change was easy.
Summary: After months of contemplating, between cordless and corded. I bought this because i love my Makita Drill and because it uses the same battery as the Reciprocating Saw, i just bought it. First time using a reciprocating saw, and i managed to bend the blade. However the saw had enough power to cut through all the 2x4's... Thanks Makita!!
