Summary: I like Hitachi as a tool manufacturer because they have delivered quality, durable tools for an affordable price. I was surprised at the price of this chopsaw initially, and even more so when I used it for the first time. I needed a new chop saw and contemplated buying a compound sliding one, however was not ready to spend the money needed for a quality one, nor did this fit my current lifestyle. So this was my next choice.
Summary: This is the first power saw I've purchased or used. It was very easy to set up and operate. I've been very pleased so far, although I don't have a lot to compare it to. I used it to redo the molding in my son's room. I purchased the finer saw for the molding cuts and don't even need to sand them. The only downside is that the measurement for beveled cuts is hard to read. I really only use it for 90 degree or 45 degree cuts.
Summary: Why did I wait so long to purchase this saw? I don't know. Being a DIY type person, I resorted to using a standard miter box and stiff crosscut saw for way too many years. Old dogs can learn new tricks.
Summary: It was time to replace my Black & Decker miter saw and Lowe's had this one on sale. I have a few Hitachi tools and never had any issues with them. So I purchased this unit. The pros: First and foremost it has a very nice and solid feel to it and also as you move the turret, Compound angle capability, Auto brake system, Easy dust bag to remove and install, the table height is exactly 3 1/2" so it's easy to stand a 2x4 on it's side if you have a longer piece to cut.
