Poor tool design, blade change lever failed after wear
30 November 2012
Summary: I purchased this tool two years ago. For the first year, it worked great. After that, the lever used to change the blade started sticking. A few weeks ago the lever broke (the arm that pushed on the blade snapped off). The design of the blade changing mechanism is flawed, once it starts to wear, it starts sticking and eventually you're unable to change the blade. I wish I bought a higher quality tool.
Summary: I loved this tool when it was working but after not that much use the teeth that hold the blade under pressure no longer hold hard enough to prevent the blade from coming out. The mechanism that holds the blade has no catch hole, it uses a few serated teeth to pressure hold the blade in place. Unfortunately, once the pressure starts to lessen you can't tighten it down and the blade will start popping out. If anyone knows of a fix for this problem, please let me know.
Summary: It is probably the one tool in my arsenal that I rarely think about grabbing for a job, but should think about. I don't do much woodwork, otherwise I'm sure I'd carry this regularly. But the few metal cuts & wood notches I've had to make, this thing is great. I have a corded version for bigger metal cutting so I can't attest to how much battery life you'll get with heavy cutting, but for anything I've done she shines right through.
Summary: I bought this to replace a 15 year old model. Overall it performs better and more quietly than its predecessor. However, I occasionally have to switch back to my old model if I use any blade other than a T style. The keyless clam does a poor job of holding onto the "standard" blades.
Excerpt: I love the blower that directs air flow over the cutting area keeping it clean & easy to watch improving accuracy. The quick blade change feature works really well, better that other jig saws I've used.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast Cutting Speed, Good Design, Powerful
Summary: Always loved DeWalt tools and this was no exception. Was working great for the first two weeks, then the blade angle adjustment level fell off. Tried to re-attach it and won't' stay on. Pretty disappointed and not sure who to talk to... Will try Amazon first and hope it gets resolved quickly. Hope its just a one-off flaw and not a product based problem.
