Summary: I have owned the top Dewalt for 10 years, it keeps needing switches and velcro pad every few months, I use them daily and for hours at a time. The Makita was lighter and the pad was smaller. I liked it a lot. I did tests on 3 sanders. I held them for vibration, I see them to feel and get an impression of how well it operated and then I weighted them. This is sander to buy.
Summary: I am really pleased with this sander. For the past few years I borrowed my neighbor's orbiting sander. That convinced me that i should get one of my own. I did a lot of research and ended up choosing the Makita model.
Summary: This Product is very difficult to control compared to similar orbital sanders I have owned and used. In addition, the sanding dust bag comes off quite easily. If it is bumped while sanding it will fall off immediately. Update April 21, 2014: The Makita sander continues to perform poorly. With 120 sandpaper on the machine it nearly tears it out of my hand when sanding the A face of plywood (that is the face that is already sanded fairly smooth when purchased).
