Summary: A total piece of junk! Expected something more from Makita, after reviews and given the price. My hubby asked me to order this, and we've tried to send it back, but Amazon says it's too late. Makes disconcerting noises and shows signs of overheating after only about 5 minutes of work.
Excerpt: Pulled it out of the box and smoothed up six 2x4s and six 6x6 posts for staining on an outdoor project. Virtually ran continuously for about an hour and one half. Never missed a lick and ran on edges without jumping or bobbing off. Fine tool.
Pros: Comfortable Handles, Good Balance, Good Belt Tracking, Powerful, Sands Smoothly
Summary: I researched this sander extremely well and frankly I did not think it would fit my needs. I owned a Makita 9401 for 27 years without so much as a hesitation from the machine. I am a finish carpenter and use my sanders constantly.
Summary: This sander has gotten a real workout here. I've had it about a year and have used it on several workshop projects making bookcases with solid wood. I've been using red elm, sassafras, hickory, and some yellow pine, and it makes quick work of flattening and removing some bad surface defects.
and 3000 grit for a beautiful finish on the crystal

Summary: Use this to do initial polishing on selenite crystal coasters and table slabs. Use it from 50 thru 400 grit, then finish off with the Makita wet grinder with 1000, and 3000 grit for a beautiful finish on the crystal. Just bought a second one for my business partner to do coasters and marble bases.
Summary: This sander is lighter and faster than my old one and it is easy to use. The dust collector gets most of the saw dust and does not blow all over the place. The belts are easy to replace and the speed control makes it nice for fine sanding and corners.
GEts the job done. Quiet, can be put upside down for small jobs, light and relatively powerful.

Summary: I like it. It is not as powerful as my old Bosch, but that 4 inch sander was discontinued. It gets the job done, is rather quiet and easier to use than the bosch. It also sits well upside down for small piece sanding. Would purchase another one.
Summary: Instead of renting a floor sander I chose to pick this one up with the idea that I would use it for other projects after I did a floor. Ive used many sanders over the years in woodworking and this has good balance, power and is simple to add/remove a belt.
Summary: I bought this to sand some large pieces of wood and I wish I had purchased this sander much earlier as I love it. Much better than my old sanders and it really does pickup most of the dust which is amazing.
