Summary: This orbital sander is so much better then the 5" one its about 3 times faster on hard wood and does a better job. I used it to sand sheet rock plaster in my new house and after using it for the whole building the variable speed adjuster seems to have connection problem from that very fine dirt dust and have to move it up down sometimes to get it going again.
Summary: Overall this is a great sander. My primary use was to sand cars for paint. It was up to the task. The variable speed is a good feature, though I rarely ever use the top speed. It definitely has a lot of power, it's perfect for wood projects. The only reason I gave it 4/5 is that it is hard to find 6 inch hook & loop sanding pads as most sanders use 5 inch now. The pad works great though, just stick the pad on (it's velcro) and pull it off when your done.
Summary: I bought this orbital for use as a polisher for auto detailing. Works great. I knew I was going to be happy with it before I bought it because I used to work at the local Mercedes-Benz dealership and this is what they used as their polishers. Overall great performing, long lasting sander/polisher. I know I bought a tool that I will have for the rest of my life.
