VERSION 2 - 9 volt

Joel C., Newegg
13 February 2015
  • Summary: These may be good quality switches. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to even use them since they are not As Described under the specifications, and are the V2 version rather than the original.
  • Pros: Everything is perfect for our use - metal case, lights, cable and power port arrangement. We are using these internally as part of a multi-core buildout.
  • Cons: These are the V2 version of the switches. This may work fine for some people, but we specifically wanted the original version. We need a 12 Volt power supply, but the V2 is 9 Volt. Unfortunately, because of this we will likely have to return them.

will not reliably negotiate gigabit

Daniel S., Newegg
5 August 2014
  • Summary: Maybe the power saving features get in the way. Swapped all cables and tried a different switch to verify, this ZyXEL does not advertise and properly negotiate 1000baseT/Full with two of my computers. No trouble with different brand / known good switch.
  • Pros: Inexpensive and "Green"
  • Cons: Does not reliably negotiate to gigabit speed.

Good

Gregory G., Newegg
31 July 2014
  • Summary: I still say it's a good value have had it over a year and a 1/2 and it's worked fine. Speed has been fast. Just wish port 5 would work. Might be time to by another switch. Maybe I need 16 ports.
  • Pros: Have had it over a year and has worked great. Stays cool. Metal case is nice to dissipate any heat. Probably why it doesn't get hot. And I am using almost all ports on this guy.
  • Cons: Port 5 is acting flakey that last month or so. Just plugged in a device into port 5 no light or connectivity. Plug it in to port 7 works fine. Repeat same behavior. All my ports are full and live. Wondering if it's cuz it's to busy? If it was that then why does port 7 work fine?

Great

Christopher L., Newegg
26 July 2014
  • Summary: The only thing that could improve this product is to add speed lights, everything else is great!
  • Pros: Works as it is supposed to. I have not had a problem in two months of heavy use.
  • Cons: No speed lights, just connection lights.

Woody Chain, Amazon
2 October 2013
  • Summary: Bought this Zyxel GS1088 unit along with the Zyxel router thinking it was professional grade, worked fine for a couple of months then stopped, dead, DOA! Nothing, everything else is still works fine, protected by a UPS and Surge protection, as well as running behind a Trace SW inverter.

Works great

Thomas G., Newegg
13 August 2013
  • Pros: Works great. It's made of metal and is heavy enough that it doesn't move around on a desk when all cords are plugged in.
  • Cons: none so far, it just works
