One of the devices looked like it had been opened

DG., Amazon
9 February 2015
  • Summary: One of the devices looked like it had been opened, broken and returned. It was not packaged like a new device and the broken piece was not in the box. It functions but the fiber port is broken. The other unit was fully packaged and is working.

  • Summary: Sirenia recommend I purchase a 500 dollar converter from them for my dental X-ray unit. I figured I would give trend net a shot and my 450 bucks is glad I did. Works like a charm

Solid media converters

Brian F., Newegg
10 August 2012
  • Summary: I have about 10 of these in my network. These days, media converters seem to be taboo, so be prepared to deal with judging looks from your boss. Probably should be replaced with a managed switch + SFP for the long-term.
  • Pros: Sturdy metal construction, also offered in SC configuration if you need it. Great modular design! This is actually a media converter card inside of a single slot chassis. If you end up with a bunch of these in one spot, you can buy a rack-mount chassis and move the cards over to it, saving space ...
  • Cons: Doesn't come with any racking brackets.
