Multiple Failures

Sean K., Newegg
6 April 2014
  • Pros: -Nice GUI for managing the network -Wireless worked great -Allows a large number of ports to be forwarded
  • Cons: I've had two of these fail on me in four years. The original one that I bought lasted almost three years before a hardware failure occurred in July of 2013 that prevented the router from obtaining a WAN ip address (the router would only assign 0.0.0.0 to the WAN ip, subnet, and default gateway). ...

Horrible purchase

Sully, Amazon
4 April 2014
  • Summary: This thing sucked! It worked out of the box but the wireless signal was horrendous. It couldn't get through the walls of my home. Through one wall, I could only get 2 bars where my old Linksys wireless router (before it died) was able to give me full bars from the same spot in my home.

Drops wired connection

Nick M., Newegg
20 January 2013
  • Summary: Received as a gift. Was more interested in gigabit than wireless-n. Wireless seems to work well, don't use is that much. I am going to return this and get the Netgear WNR3500L-100
  • Pros: -Gigabit ports for fast in network transfers -internet actually seems like its running a bit faster (even though this should have nothing to do with that)
  • Cons: -drops wired connections from the internet at least twice a day. have to release and renew internet configuration. tried updating FW. that didn't help. Never had this problem with previous router (WGR614). I saw a previous review with the same problem. -have to log in twice every time to log into...

Was great while it lived

Nebula-Hosting, Newegg
20 June 2012
  • Pros: This router was amazing. Great signal and was able to hold quite the load with the wireless. So much so that I let my neighbors piggy back off my 60mbs down. The interface is kind of akward to work with, but after roaming around it for a bit i finally found how to access port forwarding and what ...
  • Cons: This thing is a PAIN to get to connect with my cable modem. As of right now it cannot connect with charter's DHCP. It will not hold any settings (namely the time) if you reboot the thing. My father owns one and his works flawlessly so I would say this product is hit or miss. Not enough for me to ...

Lasted For A Year

Greg T., Newegg
31 January 2012
  • Summary: Shopping for a new router now and probably won't be trendnet. A little disappointed with the lack of longevity. Don't want to be shopping for a new router every year.
  • Pros: Worked well while it lasted
  • Cons: Didn't quite have the range I was hoping for and then died after a year. Would expect it to last longer than a year.

Why did I stray from Linksys?

Craig L., Newegg
16 December 2011
  • Summary: Looks like Christmas this year is shelling out more money for a new Linksys router. I hoped that the TRENDnet unit I bought a year ago was a long term solution.
  • Pros: Clean unit with easy setup.
  • Cons: Signal strength is poor. My old Linksys b/g router had solid access throughout our house. Our desktop unit 40 feet away in the kitchen constantly loses signal. Netflix streaming (why I got this unit) is constantly "retrieving".

Great when it worked

Bruno R., Newegg
13 November 2011
  • Pros: This router has a great range and is easy to set-up. It was the core of our wireless network (two computers, BR player with Neflix and other services and Internet Radio) and was pretty reliable.
  • Cons: Does not last. Bought 07/2010, Died 11/2011 I expected much more in term of quality. I guess I can still use it as an Internet switch or a paper weight.

Significant inferior to its predecessor TEW-631BRP

Hong Z., Newegg
4 November 2011
  • Summary: If I had never used any router, I might have given a 4-star rating to this device because it seems to work stably after all the hassles. Fortunately, I have used quite a few routers and many Trendnet products, especially, TEW-631BRP which I like very much, and used for quite a few years before...
  • Pros: Stable so far
  • Cons: Significant inferior to its predecessor TEW-631BRP. For example: 1.Event log is gone. 2.No more dropdown list of connected devices for adding reserved DHCP IP. 3.Rebooting is required every time a reserved IP is added. Even worse, it may require rebooting the device for which the IP is reserved f...

Unreliable

David C., Newegg
18 October 2011
  • Summary: The unit is garbage. I will not buy another Trendnet unless they fix this quick. I have not seen a router this bad before.
  • Pros: High signal strength...(must be reduced to 35% if devices withing 5 ft). Great speed when it works.
  • Cons: No more then 2 wifi devices connect/obtain ip. After 1-3days operation B/G devices no long connect. Don't know if its software or heat, tried 2 firmwares.

Frustrating to no end

Shawn M., Newegg
12 October 2011
  • Summary: I've had trouble with other routers, but this takes the cake. I'll not be purchasing from Trendnet again.
  • Pros: Speeds were fine when it worked. It had occasional periods of flawless operation for weeks at a time. I don't mind the admin/settings page function as much as some seem to.
  • Cons: UNRELIABLE. This thing has had me pulling my hair out so many times. It's as though it will start working again JUST before I break down and replace it, but not this time; I'm done! Issues are similar to other reviewers - it just doesn't like to have more than 1-2 devices on the network, especial...
