Summary: I had the previous model of this switch and the only difference is its a bit smaller and doesn't have the second row of LEDs but the better performance makes up for it! I use all 8 ports with Dish box, playstation, Vizio smart tv, and several other devices without any problems!
Please return to the old design with speed indication and mounting holes
30 April 2015
Summary: I have deployed just under 500 of these (the older design) in residential apartments and condos. When the time came for the next building after construction was completed, I immediately went and purchased another 155 of these thinking they were the same model (because the model number was in fact...
Pros: great switches, if you can find the older design with mounting holes and leds that indicate the 10/100/1000 connection speed.
Cons: they changed the design, removing the mounting holes and the speed indicating leds AND KEPT THE SAME MODEL NUMBER!
Summary: The Gigabit transfer rate does eclipse hard disk drives' read/write speed. I've tested this switch with two Windows 7 PCs with SATA 3 SSD drives to get the 125 MBs transfer rate, simple copy/paste of a large file. With FTP server/client, the transfer rate would probably be marginally better.
Pros: This review is for TRENDnet TEG-S80G Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit GREENnet Switch. Works as it should, large file transfer is fast around 125 MB/s transfer rate. The metal housing doesn't get hot, instead it's lukewarm to touch. I've got this switch for half price at Newegg, well worth the money.
Summary: The perfect supplement to my existing home network. I'd maxed out the wired ports on my router and needed to add more gigabit ports without breaking the bank. It's easy to install given the auto-sensing ports (no crossover cables needed) and doesn't heat up too badly even under a load.
Summary: This is my second unit, since I needed more ports. It is 24/7 on with no overheat issues. If you are in doubt between plastic or metal housing for a switch, for this model there is no need to spend the extra $ on metal.
Pros: I bought this switch while setting up my home network because it was cheap, but I was never expecting to get so much use out of it. I get great throughput and it doesn't bat an eye doing media streaming and other things with an insane amount of packets. I've got active devices on every port and i...
Summary: I've been using this for a short time as a replacement for an older Netgear that was beginning to act flaky. The price was great and I have the same functionality with more ports. This is paired up with a higher capacity TRENDnet switch. I like the energy saving functionality and it's plug and play.
