Pros: Just plugged it in and it worked. Previously used a 4-port Trendnet gigabit switch and it was OK but I needed more ports (leave those computers alone at night and they multiply). The pleasant surprise with this switch is that it seems much faster than the 4-port. That's subjective because I didn't want to swap the 4-port back in to test it. I don't usually take the time to write reviews but this switch is impressive enough that I made time to do it. Highly recommended...
Cons: None really. The box is a little lightweight so you have to be careful with cable routing so that it doesn't pull the switch off or whatever you have it perched on. Not really a con - just something to be aware of.
Summary: The Gigabit transfer rate does eclipse hard disk drives' read/write speed. I've tested this switch with two Windows 7 PCs with SATA 3 SSD drives to get the 125 MBs transfer rate, simple copy/paste of a large file. With FTP server/client, the transfer rate would probably be marginally better. With hard disk drives the transfer rate drops to 70-90 MB/s. The drop is related to the hard drive and not to the switch...
Pros: This review is for TRENDnet TEG-S80G Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit GREENnet Switch. Works as it should, large file transfer is fast around 125 MB/s transfer rate. The metal housing doesn't get hot, instead it's lukewarm to touch. I've got this switch for half price at Newegg, well worth the money.
Summary: The perfect supplement to my existing home network. I'd maxed out the wired ports on my router and needed to add more gigabit ports without breaking the bank. It's easy to install given the auto-sensing ports (no crossover cables needed) and doesn't heat up too badly even under a load. The price was right, too!
Summary: This is my second unit, since I needed more ports. It is 24/7 on with no overheat issues. If you are in doubt between plastic or metal housing for a switch, for this model there is no need to spend the extra $ on metal.
Pros: I bought this switch while setting up my home network because it was cheap, but I was never expecting to get so much use out of it. I get great throughput and it doesn't bat an eye doing media streaming and other things with an insane amount of packets. I've got active devices on every port and it handles it all beautifully. I now have both my minecraft servers running through it and the performance is great. Very little power use too. An amazing buy.
Summary: I've been using this for a short time as a replacement for an older Netgear that was beginning to act flaky. The price was great and I have the same functionality with more ports. This is paired up with a higher capacity TRENDnet switch. I like the energy saving functionality and it's plug and play. It's carrying iSCSI traffic with no issues.
