2.4 Ghz is unstable

Lian C., Newegg
28 September 2014
  • Summary: Apparently I am not the only one with this issue. Google tplink 2.4 ghz stopped working and you will see a list of customers with the exact same issue.
  • Pros: Price / value when it's stable.
  • Cons: Every now and then, I would lose the 2.4 ghz connection and only able to access the 5 ghz connection. Recently, the 2.4 Ghz stopped working completely. As a test, I disabled the 5 ghz connection and none of my devices are able to access wifi.

I'm actually looking for another router. I recently started ...

Farmer John, Amazon
21 September 2014
  • Summary: I'm actually looking for another router. I recently started using this router. the 2.4 ghz range drops once in a while and i have to reset the router for it to work again.. the router stopped automatically detecting the dns/ip from the modem, so i had to manually input the values in. it's only a matter of time when the router stops working.

Terrible range and connectivity issues!

Daniel, Amazon
30 August 2014
  • Summary: Ordered this after it went on sale and returned the TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND V2 Wireless N300 Gigabit Router. The range was worse than my original, cheap, 3-yr old linksys router. My wife and I got so frustrated with the connection between the router and our devices that we ultimately stopped using it shortly after we got it. It now just sits practically brand-new on my desk, unused.

Media server doesn't function properly: no media information transmitted

Crimsoncascade, Amazon
27 July 2014
  • Summary: The media server function does not operate properly. For many on the TP-Link forums on their website (just google it), many have problems with a potential 100 file limit. This has not been my problem: rather Dlna is not implemented properly, as others on the forum will attest to the problems with the coding. My main motivation for buying was to put mp3's on a USB stick and stream to my LG G2 Android phones to bluetooth, stream to my sony bd device, etc.

User Review

Coach50, Walmart
26 July 2014
  • Summary: Replaced a Trendnet TEW 631 BRP router because of poor signal strength at the back part of the house. (Approximately 60 feet & 3 walls) The N750 supposedly had much better range but I find the signal is no stronger than with the TEW631.

Got two of these

Alistair H., Newegg
21 July 2014
  • Pros: Well built, good value for the features. So so wireless range (don't have much of a benchmark to compare, but surrounded by concrete and almost no other wifi signals). No significant degradation over time (not that it helps in this case).
  • Cons: WDS wireless extending was never stable. On any firmware. Constantly needed rebooting, seemed to constantly runs hot. Frustrating feel like I wasted $200 for a solution that never really worked. Always ended up turning off extended router to fix network. Wireless routers seems to be a gamble regardless of price, you never know reliability today or a year from now.

Got RMA, still a bad router

Devin T., Newegg
6 July 2014
  • Summary: See previous review for more details about RMA. This router would probably work as a stand alone unit with some random dropped connections, but will not work with wireless bridges. Modest wifi signal. At 30 ft through 2 interior walls, 5ghz is 2 bars but still >2MB/s. 2.4Ghz is a little weaker than the last 2 non-N router's I have had, but still easily covers a 2000 sqft house.
  • Pros: When this router functions, it is fast. Supports DD-WRT.
  • Cons: There is some sort of flakiness with wireless connections. The connection will cut out for a second on most devices, especially under load. This happened with 2 units and with stock and DD-WRT firmware. Unfortunately, DD-WRT bridges are badly affected by this, and they don't instantly reconnect. Cycling power on the bridge reconnects, or waiting an hour or so the bridge will reconnect. Multiple bridges that work on other AP's have this problem, and different firmware ...

Tripp Williams, Amazon
3 July 2014
  • Summary: Spent more money thinking this would get better range but doesn't work any better than a $20 one!
