Good for my purposes, but not recommendable

Will Rosenthal, Amazon

  • Summary: I specifically purchased two of these TP-Link TL-MR3040 Portable Routers for use as firewalls when accessing public wifi networks such as in hotels. I only use them in WISP mode so the review will focus only on that mode.

It's great when it works.

Mr Antsy, Amazon

  • Summary: It's great when it works. I have to reboot the router or manually force it to disconnect and reconnect to the cellular network a lot. I'm using it with a USB551L on Verizon. The 551L seems to work fine when plugged directly into my laptop, but kinda iffy on this router.

Good Product, Documentation Flaws, Slow 3G/4G Error Recovery

Curtis Collins, Amazon
18 August 2014
  • Summary: For my purposes, use aboard my boat, I wanted a device which could be powered directly from a DC power source. This device fits the bill and offers a lot of functionality with its many operating modes, but has negatives in two areas. One, the documentation is very redundant and has some errors.

Lawrence, Amazon

  • Summary: The product had problems identifying the modem I intended to use with it. Updating the firmware did not work. I have put it back into storage until it can serve as a wifi hotspot.

Remember Windows 95 and the "blue screen of death"?

Retired BSEE, Amazon
24 April 2013
  • Summary: Here in Thailand, land line/DSL service is difficult to come by (and in remote/rural areas, impossible). I use a 3G aircard for internet access and wanted to get my smart TV and wifi tablet on line. I took a gamble with the MR3220, in that I purchased the unit in the U.S., but use it in Asia.

Good 4G compatible router

TheDash "TheDash", Amazon
7 June 2015
  • Summary: 1. Works flawlessly with the Airtel 4G dongle E3272, no random disconnections so far. Been using the device for over a month. 2. TP Link settings are good enough. 3. Wifi Range is horrid. Suitable for a single room usage. Speed drops by a large factor even with 2 available bars of wifi signal. 4.
