Summary: This instance of this product did not work. I do believe there was something physically wrong with this particular item. Netgear has a great reputation for making excellent networking hardware. Unfortunately this one must have some internal hardware issues that have not been fixed under the warranty before putting it up for sale. I gave it 5 stars for value and features on the premise that if it had worked properly, it would indeed have been a great value.
Summary: I'm a computer professional. Was sure that Netgear would have fixed any problems with this router with updated software. I was correct. Have owned several Netgear routers/modem routers, all with great success. Range on the Wireless N is superb, and the Gigabit ports are extremely fast and flawless. I have sharing on another Netgear router, so USB support was not important to me. This one just extended the range of my home network.
Summary: This is an easy to use router. The default configuration will work for most home applications. The only thing a person should do is name their router (SSID) and change the default channel. This is easy to do once connected to the router. Since NetGear RangMax WNR854T has chosen to use a standard IP address for the units it is easy to configure with your internet browser.
Summary: Works seamlessly. Gigabit connections are a great plus, and so is 300mbps wireless internet. Much faster than what I had for even cheaper than a G router at Walmart. You won't regret buying this one.
Summary: I've had this router for ten months, and this morning it just suddenly stopped working. Tried resetting factory defaults, but it won't even stay powered on. Not having the luxury to wait for a replacement, I bought an Airport Extreme. If you're thinking about buying a netgear, save yourself some time and trouble and just set your money on fire instead.
Summary: I bought this as a replacement for my Linksys G wireless router hoping that I would get increased coverage and throughput. It took me 3 hours to finally get the router to connect. After that, coverage was poor and it kept dropping connection with my cable modem resulting in it having to be unplugged and reset every 10-15 mins. Needless to say, it got sent back right where it came from.
Summary: My second RangeMax NEXT died today, less than 6 months after I purchased the original one. Same problem as far as I can tell, the power light is on, but the rest of the unit is completely non-responsive, and technical support can do nothing except keep you on the line for 45 minutes resetting and trying to reconnect the cables every which way.
