Summary: This instance of this product did not work. I do believe there was something physically wrong with this particular item. Netgear has a great reputation for making excellent networking hardware. Unfortunately this one must have some internal hardware issues that have not been fixed under the warranty before putting it up for sale. I gave it 5 stars for value and features on the premise that if it had worked properly, it would indeed have been a great value.
Summary: I'm a computer professional. Was sure that Netgear would have fixed any problems with this router with updated software. I was correct. Have owned several Netgear routers/modem routers, all with great success. Range on the Wireless N is superb, and the Gigabit ports are extremely fast and flawless. I have sharing on another Netgear router, so USB support was not important to me. This one just extended the range of my home network.
Summary: This is an easy to use router. The default configuration will work for most home applications. The only thing a person should do is name their router (SSID) and change the default channel. This is easy to do once connected to the router. Since NetGear RangMax WNR854T has chosen to use a standard IP address for the units it is easy to configure with your internet browser.
Summary: Works seamlessly. Gigabit connections are a great plus, and so is 300mbps wireless internet. Much faster than what I had for even cheaper than a G router at Walmart. You won't regret buying this one.
Summary: Let me say first off, this is an excellent router. It is my personal favourite of all routers that I have either owned or worked with. I realize that many people here (and elsewhere) have been burned by this router but if you'll bear with me, I'll justify my four stars by explaining why yours might have died on you, if you own this one, and if you don't, I just might give you the reassurance and reason you were looking for to use it.
Summary: A year and a half ago, I bought a WNR854T, and I was quite happy with configuration and performance of the router. A year and two weeks ago, the router died -- power light green, nothing else lit up, as usual -- and since I needed a router, I thought "stuff happens" and bought another one while the first unit was going through an in-warranty replacement So far, so good.
Summary: I have had this "product" for a month. In my defense, when I bought this TOL's detailed review wasn't up yet. If you buy this today, you won't have that straw to clutch to. I have had a wireless network in my home for 5 years or more. It runs off a Netgear MR814, works great. I decided I needed more bandwidth over wireless, Gbps for the wire connected computers. A friend in the switch industry recommended this, I ignored my usual research and bought it.
