Summary: This instance of this product did not work. I do believe there was something physically wrong with this particular item. Netgear has a great reputation for making excellent networking hardware. Unfortunately this one must have some internal hardware issues that have not been fixed under the warranty before putting it up for sale. I gave it 5 stars for value and features on the premise that if it had worked properly, it would indeed have been a great value.
Excerpt: Hey im always online on my laptop. So I need a good trusting wireless router to do the job. So let me tell you this netgear wireless router is top shelf. One of my friends advised me to get this router at the beginning when I first got my router and i am very glad that I got this router, This router gives the laptop signal from a long range. For example, if I have the router in my room I will have the wireless signal all the way outside.
Excerpt: I purchased the Netgear WNR854T Wireless Router when it first came out. So far it has been very reliable and fast enought to do most of the things I need it to do. I have the router located in my basement with my home entertainment system almost directly above it on the first floor. I don't think the range of this router is as good as it should be. I sometimes have trouble connecting to it on the first floor.
Excerpt: I can ride around my neighborhood with my laptop and still get a signal from this router two, three and four streets away. Better make sure you have your wi-fi password protected. I had to drop the broadcast signal down drastically because I didn't need it to reach as far as it did. I bought a refurbished model and it has worked wonderfully. Thanks, NetGear.
Summary: I'm a computer professional. Was sure that Netgear would have fixed any problems with this router with updated software. I was correct. Have owned several Netgear routers/modem routers, all with great success. Range on the Wireless N is superb, and the Gigabit ports are extremely fast and flawless. I have sharing on another Netgear router, so USB support was not important to me. This one just extended the range of my home network.
Summary: This is an easy to use router. The default configuration will work for most home applications. The only thing a person should do is name their router (SSID) and change the default channel. This is easy to do once connected to the router. Since NetGear RangMax WNR854T has chosen to use a standard IP address for the units it is easy to configure with your internet browser.
Summary: Works seamlessly. Gigabit connections are a great plus, and so is 300mbps wireless internet. Much faster than what I had for even cheaper than a G router at Walmart. You won't regret buying this one.
