Has it's up's and down's

Pen Name, Amazon

  • Summary: I originally bought one of these routers 2 years ago. One day it just stopped working. I thought it was broken, so I bought a new one. It turned out to be a bad power supply. Not happy about that.

Not bad for what I paid!!

Garo S., Newegg
14 September 2009
  • Summary: I almost bricked this router. I flashed from the netgear interface to a DD-WRT std (standard) firmware, which is WRONG. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS!! If you don't first flash to the mini the way DD-WRT forums explains, you WILL be sorry.
  • Pros: DD-WRT capable! Wireless N seems pretty good. I got it for cheap as a refurb!!
  • Cons: The administrative interface will lock up often when I make changes. I have DD-WRT on there, which is great, but many times the admin CP will lock up on me when I try to "Apply Changes" - this ALWAYS requires a reboot to fix, but at least the router still works, so it won't kick anyone off until ...

Problem-free usage

  • Summary: This is the first wireless router I have used, and I relied on the saleman's recommendation when I bought it. I spent one tedious hour getting it set up. After that, it has been a joy. I have been using it for 6 months with no trouble at all.

Good Deal for Netgear users at $70

10th Legion "10th Legion", Amazon
4 January 2009
  • Summary: My 5-year old Netgear WGR614 wireless G-standard router was starting to drop connection with my cable modem so I shopped around, read the reviews and decided to stay with Netgear despite the mixed reviews.

  • Summary: It took my husband many hours to set up this piece of equipment, but it works very well. I think this type of equipment is difficult to set up unless you are a trained technician. We have had no problems with the reuter so far.

Very nice

Anonymous, Newegg
18 April 2008
  • Summary: After reading a couple reviews about 300ms ping + this is most likely caused because others were using another router in the same area as you like a neighbor. This can easily be fixed by changing the channel.
  • Pros: I purchased this router at Best Buy in order to replace an old linksys wireless router. The range on this router is about a good 80 feet with walls and the speeds are great. I have had no problem with backwards compatibility with b/g.
  • Cons: The price and range is okay.

I'd like to meet the novice

mateo52 "invisible man", Amazon

  • Summary: I doubt I have ever had as much indecision in arriving at what I consider to be the most appropriate star rating for any item I've reviewed. I do not claim to be a networking savant however I do have enough of a background that I felt confident that I could create a security-enabled network with...

No Problems For Me..... Works Great

Theodora B., Newegg
21 October 2007
  • Summary: In reading many of the other negative reviews, I have to say that I am confused as to why those users had issues. My wireless connection has been great. There are three routers on my network.
  • Pros: Stable, strong signal/range, easy configuration, very good speed, works great in WPA2 on my laptops with the original cards supplied by the manufacturer (HP & Dell, Intel 3945 a/b/g cards).
  • Cons: None so far.
